Предварительный просмотр:

                                                      SCENE 1

1. Christmas carol’s sounding (Track 1)

SCROOGE (Enters. Finds CAROLERS singing): What's with all this singing? Who authorized this? Cratchet!

CRATCHET: Yes, Mr. Scrooge.

SCROOGE: Did you tell these people they could make all this noise in here?

CRATCHET: Do you dislike it Sir?

SCROOGE: Of course I do! Get out of here, filthy beggars! Bring me some tea.

CRATCHET: Yes, Mr. Scrooge. (Pauses for more instructions)

 SCROOGE: Make it quick.

 CATCHET (Rushes off):Yes, Mr. Scrooge.

(A lady rushes in)

 SADIE: Hello, Mr. Scrooge.

SCROOGE:I know who you are. Every holiday you come around begging for money.

SADIE (Laughs): Always the comedian. Have you made your yearly donation to the Sisters of Suffering Charity?

SCROOGE: I will pay this year as much as I pay every year.

 SADIE: Which is?

SCROOGE: Absolutely nothing.

SADIE: But it helps the poor, the needy, the sick, the suffering.

SCROOGE: Stop feeding the poor, the hungry, the sick, and the suffering. It makes them live just a little bit longer and makes them suffer just a little bit more. Do them and me a favor and stop helping them. There's too many people in this world as it is. Let them die and decrease the surplus population.

SADIE: I should go, Mr. Scrooge. Here's some literature in case you change your mind.(Hands SCROOGE some flyers)Merry Christmas.(CRATCHET enters from behind with tea and cake)

SCROOGE: Christmas. Humbug. (Not seeing CRATCHET. He yells)

Cratchet! Where's my...(Realizes CRATCHET is there)...set it down here.

CRATCHET:Will there be anything else this evening?

 SCROOGE: What do you mean?

CRATCHET: Mr. Scrooge. It's Christmas Eve. Tonight could I get home before my children go to sleep?

SCROOGE: I'm a reasonable man. Take the rest of the night off... without pay.

CRATCHET: Oh, thank you, Mr. Scrooge. Thank you.

(So happy CRATCHET reaches for SCROOGE)

SCROOGE: Don't you dare hug me.

 CRATCHET: Sorry, Mr. Scrooge. (leaving)

SCROOGE:Tomorrow you will be here at your usual time or you can look for another job.(Exits)

                                                           SCENE 2

SCROOGE: Humbug.(Takes the cup)

(the sound of chains - MARLA)What was that? Cratchet? Are you still here?

Oh, my goodness.  I swear I'm hearing...(The ghost of MARLA appears )

Holy Jesus!

MARLA: Ebenezer Scrooge!

SCROOGE: Who are you?

MARLA: I'm your old partner Marla. You've been a naughty boy, Ebenezer.

SCROOGE(Scared): Go away.  I need some medicine. Some plop, plop, fizz, fizz, and you'll be gone.

MARLA: I have come to warn you. Warn you of a fate worse than death. You will share my fate unless you change.

SCROOGE: Your fate? What are you talking about?

MARLA: I have paid heavily for my sins. (chains)This is my punishment for cheating people.(Shows SCROOGE)

 SCROOGE: Those were good times.

MARLA: Good times! Good times!(Shakes tableware in agony)

SCROOGE: Calm down. Take it easy.

MARLA: Your punishment will be far worse than mine, Ebenezer Scrooge, unless you change.(Chains) Tonight you will be visited by two Spirits.

At the stroke of midnight, the first will appear. Then the other will appear at each hour after.

SCROOGE: So, ha, ha. You got me. Jokes over. Now get out!

MARLA: Please, EBENEZER. This is your last chance.  (Exits)

                                                      SCENE 3

SCROOGE: The only warning I need is on the tea label.  (Grabs papers and yawns) The bell’s sticking 12 (Track 2) Asleep again?  (Looks at watch)

Christmas day already. Maybe I'll call Cratchet to come in early. I'm way behind.

  Sound of Spirit

PAST: Good evening, Ebenezer Scrooge.

SCROOGE: Who are you? How did you get in here?

PAST: I am the Spirit of the past.

 SCROOGE: This can't be.

PAST: I have come to show you your past.

SCROOGE: Sorry, I've already been there and don't care to go back.

 PAST: Please come with me.

 SCROOGE: Through the wall?

 PAST: Watch.

 The sound of snowstorm.(Track 3)

SCROOGE: What's going on?

PAST: We're taking a step back in time.

                                                    SCENE 4

 Jingle bells(Track 4)

GIRL1: Ah, I simply adore Chrismas.
YOUNG SCROOGE: So do I, especially I love to decorate a Christmas tree.
GIRL2: Girls, can you help me?
YOUNG SCROOGE: Oh, wait a moment!
GIRL1: Thanks! All right, now let's decorate a Christmas tree.
GIRL2: Yeah! Stop having a rest! We have to work!
YOUNG SCROOGE: Well, well! Let's begin. I'll take a garland. I don't want someone again to be confused in it.
GIRL1: Ok, then I will hang out Christmas balls.
GIRL2: And I will be engaged in tinsel!

                                                   SCENE 5

SCROOGE (Turns away) Please, spirit. No more. Take me home.

(Lights go to black)

 PAST: Perhaps you've seen enough.

SCROOGE: Take me home. Now, go spirit. You have tormented me enough tonight.

PAST: I will go, but you will be visited again at the stroke of one.

SCROOGE: Go!(Spirit exits . SCROOGE bows her head sadly) What a miserable life. Am I really so horrible?

 The bell’s sticking 1(Track 5)

SCROOGE: Who are you?

PRESENT: I am the spirit of the present.

SCROOGE: Are you going to show me my past again? Or present, whatever…. Ok, take my hand, I’m ready.

PRESENT: I’m not going to show you your past. I’ll show you the little children who are dying because of you and people like you! Who are alone and miserable in the world. They have no food, no home, no parents, no medicine if they are sick – nothing and nobody…

SCROOGE: I’ve never offended little kids! It’s not me to blame… I have no idea what you are talking about!

PRESENT: It’s happening day by day because of you! The only source of living for them is charity…

SCROOGE: So what?

PRESENT: You – ugly, pathetic fool! You are spoiling everything you touch! Remember what you have said: “Let them die and decrease the surplus population”! You, Ebenezer Scrooge, are the only to blame! Look, what you have done!

                                                           SCENE 6

SCROOGE:Spirit? Are you still here?(Silence)Humbug.

The clock strikes 2 (Track 6) Oh, no.(Wind. Feels a chill. The lights slowly turn to red)Hello? Someone here.

(The ghost of Christmas FUTURE appears. FUTURE is completely covered in a cloak. More chilling wind)Who are you?(No answer)

Are you the ghost of Christmas future?

(FUTURE nods)

You frighten me spirit. I don't not wish to see what you want to show me.

(FUTURE points)

No, please...

(Lights fade)

Where are you taking me?

(The grave)

Where are the little girl and the boy? Are they dead?

Please spirit, tell me it can be changed.

That little girl and the boy don't deserve to die.

(FUTURE points)

Don't show me the grave, spirit. I get the point. You don't need to show me this.

(FUTURE points)

I don't want to spirit. Please take me home. I've seen enough.

Frightening music(Track 7)

(FUTURE points again)

(SCROOGE goes to grave and pulls away growth, wipes at name)

The name! Ebenezer Scrooge! It's me... it's my name! Will I die here? What happened to my tomb? Why do I just have this obscure little gravestone? Did people hate me so bad they even left me in death?

(Falls down by grave. FUTURE walks away as she is crying)

Please, spirit. Tell me this can be changed. Tell me I can change all this.

(Lights fade to black)

                                                      SCENE 7

Ride_on_my_good_man (Track 8)

SCROOGE: It's morning. It's Christmas morning! I’m alive! I’m alive!

CRATCHET(Enters):Sorry, I'm a little late, Mr. Scrooge. I guess I overslept.

SCROOGE: My dear Bob CRATCHET! It's Christmas. Take the whole day off.

 CRATCHET: Are you serious?

 SCROOGE: Dead serious.(Pulls out money)

CRATCHET: Thank you. I'm so happy I could hug you.

SCROOGE :Then hug me.

CRATCHET: Tell you what?  We could have Christmas dinner together.

SCROOGE:With me?

 CRATCHET: Of course.

SCROOGE:Wonderful!(Hears CAROLERS)Do you hear that? CAROLERS are singing!(Goes to door. Yells)Hey! Come here.

CRATCHET: I thought you hated Christmas carols.
