Good morning, children and guests! I’m glad to see you!

How are you? Sit down, please.

  1. Teacher: Dear children and guests! On the 25th of December people celebrate Christmas – a beautiful holiday, which is loved by children and adults; when everything is decorated with lights and toys; when we see Christmas trees everywhere; when people buy presents and cards, special food, send cards and have parties! And we’ll celebrate this holiday now!

Today we’ll have an English contest – all the task will be connected with Christmas. We’ll play games, sing songs, recite poems – so I hope that’s we’ll enjoy this holiday and have a good time.

            butterfly.

-- Christmas, pudding, turkey, cracker, tinsel, sleigh, wreath, Easter

        6. Task 3. I’ll give you one word – “Christmas”, and you are to speak for few minutes about it without a break. If you stop, you’ll loose this task.

-- Christmas is a joyful religious holiday when Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. The Christmas story comes from the Bible. An angel appeared to shepherds and told them that a Savior had been born to Mary and Joseph in a stable in Bethlehem. Three Wise Men from the East followed a wondrous star which led them to the baby Jesus to whom they paid homage and presented gifts of gold, frankincense

and myrrh.

  1. On Christmas Eve, there are evening church services which everyone attends. Attention is focused on the nativity scene, while all join in singing carols. On Christmas Day, there are other religious ceremonies at churches which families attend before they make their rounds to visit friends and relatives.

  1. Going home for Christmas is a most cherished tradition of the holiday season. No matter where you may be the rest of the year, being at “home” with your family and friends for Christmas is “a must”. This means that the house will be full of cousins, aunts and uncles that might not see each other during the year.

  1. Long ago, each child hung a stoking or sock, over the fireplace. Santa entered down the chimney and left candy and presents inside the socks for the children. Today the tradition is carried on, but the socks are now large red sock-shaped fabric bags still called stockings. Each child can’t wait to open his or her eyes to see what Santa has left in the stocking. Giving gifts is a Christmas tradition.

  1. I want to tell you about Santa Claus. Most children believe that Santa Claus lives at the North Pole. All year he lists the names of children, both those who have been good and those who have been bad. He decides what presents to give to the good children. Children also find Santa Claus at shopping malls across the country. They sit on his lap and tell him what they want for Christmas. Of course, their parents are probably nearly listening is as well.

  1. On the 24th of December, Christmas Eve, Santa hitches his eight reindeer to a sleigh and loads it with presents. The reindeer pull him and his sleigh through the sky to deliver presents to children all around the world, that is, if they had been good all year.

  1. Important custom of Christmas is to sent and receive Christmas cards, which are meant to help express the sentiment of the season. Some are religious in nature: others are more secular. People begin sending Christmas cards early in December to friends. The post office advises customers to mail early in the season and avoids the Christmas rush. Some people heed the advice, others wait until the last minute and then are upset when their loved ones have not received the greeting card or the present which they send.

7. Task 4. Find 13 words connected with the Christmas season. Look horizontally and vertically.

Santa Claus is coming to town!

                                                       He’s making a list,

                                                       He’s checking it twice,

Gonna find out who’s naughty or nice.

Santa Claus is coming to town!

              He knows when you’re sleeping

              He knows when you’re awaking.

He knows when you’ve been bad or good,

So be good for goodness sake!

                                 You better watch out,

                                 You better not cry,

                                 You better not pout,

                                  I’m telling you why:

Santa Claus is coming to town!

-- There are a lot of poems about Christmas. I know that some of you have learnt them. If you want to recite them – do, please!

On the second day of Christmas my true love sent to me two turtle doves.

On the third day of Christmas my true love sent to me 3 French hens.

--                                  “How much I love you”

                      I’ve done many things for Christmas;

I’ve tied each present with bow,

                               But there’s one other thing

                                  I wanted to tell you,

                                 How much I love you,

                                  But I think you know.

--                 “When Christmas comes each year”

                                   It’s the joy of children

                                    The warmth of love

                                    The many blessings

                                   Beneath the star above

                                  The many friends we know

                                  The neighbors living near

That makes our lives so special

                           When Christmas comes each year.

--                                        “Dreams”

                           Take your dreams this Christmas

                                 And decorate the tree.

                                        Look up high

                                     And once again

                              The glowing star you’ll see.

                                     Take your dreams

                                       And carry them

                                    Into the coming year.

Dreams are made of hope and love

                                  Whenever faith is near.

-- What is it? (Christmas tree)

Do you know the song about Christmas tree?

                              O Christmas tree

O Christmas tree,

O Christmas tree,

                            How ever green your branches.

O Christmas tree,

O Christmas tree,

                            How ever green your branches.

They’re green when summer days are bright.

They’re green when winter snow is white

O Christmas tree,

O Christmas tree,

                            How ever green your branches!

Let’s guess the riddles about Christmas! It is a holiday which is celebrated on the 25th of December.

  1. It is an old man who comes from the North Pole on his sledge and brings presents to every-body at Christmas. (Santa-Claus)
  2. It is decorated with lights, toys, tinsel and it is in all the houses and in squares. (Christmas tree)
  3. It is a thing which is very dear to children at Christmas, as they find presents in it in the morning. (Stocking)

12. Now we are going to hear the story of a baby born about 2,000 years ago. His name was Jesus, and he was born in a small town in what is now the nation of Israel.

A baby’s birth is a special event in most families, but Jesus’ birth had special significance to his family as well as to many other people who heard the announcement of his birth. As you listen to the story, notice what is different or unusual about Jesus’ birth.

                  (слушаем сцену рождения Иисуса)

-- Now we try to play the part of the story of Jesus’ birth.

         Christmas play.

Characters:

Narrator, Angel, Mary, Joseph, Three Shepherds, Three Wise Men, King Herod.

Scene 1. An angel visits Mary

Narrator: This pretty woman is Mary. She lives in a little town of Nazareth. God knows that she is a very fine person. One day he sent his angel Gabriel to speak to her.

Angel: Good day, you highly favoured one. God is with you.

Mary: Good day. But who are you? I’ve never seen you before.

Angel: Don’t be afraid, Mary. Our Lord God is very pleased with you. That’s why he is going to do a wonderful thing for you. You   will soon have a baby. And you are to call him Jesus. This child will be great. He is God’s son and he will come to Earth to save the people. Our Lord God will make him king, and his kingdom will last forever.

Narrator: Mary was pleased and surprised. Soon she married Joseph and started a family. God took the life of his son from Heaven and put it inside Mary.

Joseph: Right away the baby began to grow inside her just as other babies grow inside their mother. But this baby was very special, he was God’s son.

Scene 2. Jesus born in a stable.

Narrator: Do you know who this little baby is? Yes, it is Jesus. He has just been born in a stable. Mary is laying him in a manger, which is the place that holds food for donkeys and other animals. But why are Mary and Joseph here with the animals? This is no place for a baby to be born, is it?

Joseph: No, it isn’t. But this is why we are here. The ruler of Rome Caesar Augustus made a law that everyone must return to the city where he was born to have his name written in a book. Well, I was born here, in Bethlehem.

Mary: But when we arrived here, there wasn’t a room for us anywhere. That’s why we had to come here, with animals.

Joseph: And this day Mary gave birth to Jesus. But as you can see, he is all right.

( In come the SHEPHERDS. They greet Mary and

                      Joseph and approach the manger.)

Shepherd 1: Pease be with you, good people! May we see the newborn baby?

Shepherd 2: We were in the Fields at night, talking care of the sheep, and a bright light shone all around. It was an angel! We were very much afraid. But the angel said:

Angel: Don’t be afraid. I have good news for you. Today, in Bethlehem, Christ the Lord was born! He will save the people! You will find him wrapped in a cloth and lying in a manger.

Shepherd 3: So, right away we hurried to look for the God’s son, and now we have found him!

Scene 3. Men guided by a star.

Wise Man 1: Do you see this bright star? That’s the star we’ve been waiting for! It will lead us to the important person we have been expecting to come to the world.

Wise Man 2: Yes, we have to go and search for him.

Wise Man 3: Let’s start off right now! Follow the star!

  Scene 4. Herod’s palace.

Narrator: When, after a 12-day journey, the men got to Jerusalem, they went straight to the palace of Herod, king of Jerusalem to ask about the Child.

Wise Man 1,2,3: Long live the king!

Wise Man 1: Your Majesty, we’ve come to see the Child who is to be king of the Jews.

Wise Man 2: We first saw the Child’s star when we were in the East.

Wise Man 3: We have come to worship him.

Narrator: When Herod heard about this, he got upset. He did not want another king to take his place. So, he made up a plan.

Herod: Do you, wise men, know where exactly will the promised king be born?

Wise Man 1: The books say, in Bethlehem.

Herod: Go, make a search for the young child. When you find him, let the know. I want to go and worship him, too.

Narrator: But, really, Herod wanted to find the child to kill him! So, the star moves ahead of the men and stops over the place where the child is.

  Scene 5. The holy family.

Wise Men 1,2,3: Blessed you be, good people.

Joseph: God bless you, strangers. Please come in and sit by the fire.

Wise Man 1: We have come to worship the Child who has come to save the world.

Wise Man 2: We saw his star, and decided that this baby is to be the greatest of all people.

Wise Man 3: We have brought gifts to the Holy Child. May we approach him?

Angel: I must warn you, good people. Herod wants to kill Jesus, so do not tell him where the baby is.

Narrator: God warned the Wise Men, and they returned home by another road, without visiting Herod. When Herod learned that the men from the East had left for Home, he got very angry. He gave the command to kill all the boys in Bethlehem two years of age and under. But Got warned Joseph in a dream, and he with his family left for Egypt.
