The main objectives of my project are : to show that a Russian writer, Leo Tolstoy is widely seen as one of the greatest European novelists of all time, standing “head and shoulders above all the other writers”; his masterpieces “War and Peace” and “Anna Karenina” have been read by millions around the world and continue to inspire filmmakers at home and abroad.

Leo Tolstoy (Lev Nikolayevich, Count Tolstoy), a master of realist fiction, is best known for his two longest works, War and Peace and Anna Karenina, which are commonly regarded as among the finest novels ever written.

Leo Tolstoy was born on September 9, 1828 in the province of Tula, Russia. In the 1860s, he wrote his first great novel, "War and Peace." He continued to write fiction during the 1880s and 1890s. One of his most successful later works - "The Death of Ivan Ilyich ."

In 1873 Tolstoy began working on the second of his best known books, "Anna Karenina". To this day, universities all over the world teach the novel, and there are entire courses on Anna alone.
