План-конспект урока по английскому языку по теме «Праздники»

Цели: обобщение знаний учащихся по теме «Прадники», формирование лексических навыков

Задачи урока:

             - образовательные: развитие навыков говорения, чтения, произносительных навыков, развитие навыков диалогической речи.

             - развивающие: развитие социо-культурной компетенции – увеличение объема знаний о социо-культурной специфике страны изучаемого языка, развитие навыка языковой догадки, интеллекта, памяти, внимания.

             - воспитательные:  умения работать в парах, самостоятельно.

Ход урока:

1. Приветствие и организационный момент: Teacher (T): -Good morning, guys! I’m glad to see you. Sit down, please. What’s the date today? What’s the day of the week is today? Who is absent today?

Children (Ch): - Today is the … of December. It’s … All are present today.

T: - Good. How are you?

Ch: - Fine. And you?

T: - I’m fine too, thanks. Today we are going to continue speaking about holidays and the way they are celebrated in different countries and families. As it is practically the end of the year, it’s worth discussing such holidays as Christmas and New Year. Do you like them?

Ch: - Yes, we do. (2 мин)

2. Фонетическая зарядка: T: -At the beginning of the lesson we are going to do some phonetic exercises. Look at the screen and repeat after me word by word: Christmas, gifts, celebrate, wreath, parades, St. Patrick’s Day, Guy Fawkes Day, St. Valentine’s Day, Halloween, May Day, decorate, Jesus, Nativity, Santa Claus, presents, Eve, Midnight Mass, turkey. T: - Now, let’s remember what we already know about other holidays in Great Britain and the USA. Look at the screen and say what are these holidays, when they are celebrated and what people do on them. Do this task in pairs, as a dialogue.

Ch: - It’s Thanksgiving Day. When is it?

• It’s on the 4th Thursday of November.
• What people do on that day?
• They eat traditional food with their families and friends.

Ch: - It’s Halloween. When is it?

• It is on the 31st of October.
• What people do on that day?
• They wear costumes and make funny faces from pumpkins.

Ch: - It’s May Day. When is it?

• It’s on the 1st of May.
• What people do on that day?
• They watch parades and offer flowers and sweets each other.

Ch: - It’s Valentine’s Day. When is it?

• It’s on the 14th of February.
• What people do on that day?

T: - Now, look at the texts in front of you. This text is about Christmas traditions in Great Britain. You already know enough words to read it without dictionary. Let’s read and translate it together.

Children read and translate the following text:

Christmas

Christmas is the main public holiday in Britain and the USA when people spend time with their families, eat special food, and drink a lot. Christmas is a Christian festival to remember the birth of Jesus. Every year people look forward to this holiday.

Because people give each other presents, in the days and week before Christmas the shops become very busy and everybody often spends a lot of money. People also buy and send Christmas cards to their friends, usually containing the message “Merry Christmas”. The cards often show pictures of Nativity (the birth of Christ), Santa Claus, Christmas trees. People usually decorate their houses and many people have a Christmas tree in their house which they also decorate. Children believe that Santa Claus brings them presents if they behave well. Sometimes they write a letter to Santa Claus and tell him what presents they would like for Christmas. They hang up a stocking (really a sock) on Christmas Eve because they believe that Santa Claus comes down the chimney in the night and fills it with presents.

December 24th, the day before Christmas Day, is called Christmas Eve. Some people go to a special church service called Midnight Mass (in BrE, Christmas Eve service in AmE) at 12 o’clock at night. The most important meal is Christmas dinner. The typical meal consists of roast turkey with potatoes and other vegetables. In Britain they eat Christmas pudding. Americans bake special biscuits called Christmas cookies which they eat over the Christmas season. At the start of the meal, British people often pull a cracker, which contains a small toy, a paper hat, and a joke.

Twelve days after Christmas (Twelfth Night) is the time when people take down their decorations and remove their Christmas trees. (11 мин)

T: -Now, let’s have a look at the screen. Here, you see some questions about the text. Let’s answer them.

Ch: 1. The main public holiday in Britain and the USA is Christmas.

4. They look forward to Christmas because it is a holiday when all family members get together, the house is lovely decorated and relatives give presents to each other.

8. The cards often show pictures of Nativity (the birth of Christ), Santa Claus, Christmas trees.

10. The Christmas tree is a tree decorated with toys, candles, sweets and so on.

11. Children believe that Santa Claus brings them presents.

5. Развитие навыков устной речи.

T: So, now you know enough about the way Christmas is celebrated in Britain and the USA. Let’s see how good you remember the words connecting with our theme. Look at the screen and describe and compare the pictures you see. I’ll give you a few minutes to make some notes that will help you to answer.

T: - Ok, I see now you are ready to talk about Christmas. But as you know, in our country we mostly celebrate The New Year, not Christmas. So, tell me how The New Year is celebrated in your family, what do you do at this night, whether you decorate the house, celebrate it with your family or with friends and so on. (8 мин).

6. Домашнее задание. T: - Right down you home task. At home you’ll write a letter to Santa Claus where you’ll tell about yourself, about your behavior, how and where you are going to celebrate the New Year and what present do you want to get. (1 мин)
