Nowadays we very often confront with the fact, that the knowledge of English becomes a vital necessity. Did you know that over two billion people in the world now speak this language? And this figure is ever growing.

In my reseach I will try to identify the main ways of learning English and some innovations that have appeared recently.  I want to show that everyone can find the most effective method and the way of learning English.

The problem of the  reseach: the right choice of learning English.

The relevance of the reseach: there are a lot of ways of learning the English language but everyone needs to find his own one to be succesful in studying foreign languages.

There are a great deal of methods of learning English. One of them is a study in language centres or camps. They offer good possibilities for learning English.

The object of the reseach: Up camp, the English language camp.

The subject of study: learning English by means of Up camp.

The goal of the reseach: show  the effectiveness of learning English through

Educational programmes of Up camps.

The objectives of the reseach: identify the main ways of learning English.

The hypothesis of the reseach: Good knowledge of English is required nowadays.

English language is the language of international communication, and many people are faced with this fact daily. In modern world there are many opportunities for learning English. One of the most effective ways of studying English is Up camp.Ultimately there is no right or wrong way to study language, so think about your personality, the amount of time you’re willing to dedicate to language learning and then work out what is suitable for you.  Most of all, remember to have fun and enjoy it!

Ways of learning English.

Learning English, or any new language, is not as difficult as most people think. There are several ways of learning English. The most popular and effective are:

• Self-study
• Training in groups
• Individual training with a teacher
• Practice abroad
• Each of these ways of learning English has its own advantages and disadvantages.

For example,“Self-study”.

• It's cheap. You can buy the book or download podcast and forget about the additional costs.
• You can use books and audiofiles at any appropriate time. It may be once a month, twice a week or three times a day.
• Easy to use. With teach-yourself book and the other resources you can learn English at home, or alternatively take it everywhere with you.
• But  sometimes it can be very difficult to make yourself sit down and start learning the language.
• There is no feedback. When you learn English on your own, no one will be able to help you with grammar or pronunciation. Only you will be responsible for the quality of your training.

Training in groups.

The main advantages:

• Feedback. Your teacher will control your learning and correct your mistakes.

 If you get a talented teacher and outgoing group, the lessons won't be boring.

• Cost. It’s not so expensive. This way is one of the most available.

The main disadvantages:

• Timetable. You couldn't learn English at any time. Timetable is strict and if you miss the lesson, you will lose your money and new material, which the other students have already passed.
• It depends on the qualification of your teacher. If the qualification don't comply with necessary level, the learning may be very difficult.

Before expressing my point of view about the most effective way of learning English I’d like to answer the question “Why I learn English?”. Everybody knows his own language, but it is useful to know foreign languages. I learn English, because I understand that I can use it. For example, if I go to England I'll be able to speak English too. English is used not only in England, but also in other countries. Two years ago I visited Greece and France and everywhereI heard englishspeaking people.

To my mind, the best way of learnng English which I’ve chosen is Up camp.  What is it? Up camp is an English language camp with native speakers and talented tutors.I was a participant of  Up camp which is in the Russian town Ryazan.   There are untypical classes and commubication with native speakers, schoolteachers and tutors of universities and  language centers of Russia.

Traditionally high skilled specialists come to Up camp who tell about  their experience in the use of English in their life. Musician and sociologist, traveller and sportsman, environmentalist and dancer, sociologist and programmer, journalist and engineer were guests of Up camp in autumn session. In work shops the participants can not only practise their English but  expand the area of their  interests and think of their future professions. Moreover, all of them have  the opportunity to  express themselves and their talents. Students take part in sporting events, theatrical productions, musical numbers, competing in the logic and ingenuity.

In autumn  session there were  a lot of guests from other countries. The English teacher and  a student of Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia  Emile Wallece  (Jamaica) gave some lessons in English and  learn how to mix music tracks. The sociologist Ulla Papper, a tutor  from  Higher School of Economics (from Germany) , told about a study of the work of volunteers and UCO. The guest from  Algeria Iyless Bebgedi told about  national holidays and learned the children to dance an Algerian dance. Such meetings help children to understand the importance of learning English as an international language.

Programme of the camp:

There are  classes in 4 groups according to your level of proficiency. Your group depends on the result of the test which you are sent by e-mail.  There are morning classes which are given by tutors with  specially developed programmes.

Great  attention is paid on  the development of communicative skills in English. Up working excercises and Activity Books were prepared for the students by the group of experienced tutors. Among them were both Englishspeaking and Russian teachers.

Each day in Up camp had own topic. Classes were dedicated to different topics. They were varied in shape: listening, cinema club, debates, role plays and much more.

I’d like to tell about one of the most exciting activity in Up camp  -Debates. What is a Debate? Basically, a debate is an argument with rules.

Debating rules can vary from one competition to another, and there are several formats for debates. Debates can involve single-member teams that include several students. Typically in a debate two teams are presented a resolution

or topic that they will debate, and each team is given a set period to prepare an argument.

Students typically don’t know their debate subjects ahead of time. The goal is to come up with a good argument in a short amount of time. Students are encouraged to read about current events and controversial issues to prepare for dabates.

Sometimes school teams will encourage individual team members to choose special topics and focus on them. This can give a team a special strengths in certain topics.

At a debate, one team will argue in favour (pro) and the other will argue in opposition (con).

Sometimes each team member speaks, and sometimes the team selects one member  to speak for the entire team.

A judge or a panel of judges will assigh points based on the strength of the arguments and the professionalism of the teams. One team is usually declared  the winner and that team will advance to a new round.

A typical dabate includes:

1.Students hear the topic and take positions (pro or con)

2.Teams discuss their topic and come up with ststements.

3.Teams deliver their statements and offer main points.

4.Students discuss the opposition’s argument and come up with rebuttals.

5.Rebuttals delivered.

6.Closing statements made

    Each of these sessions is timed.For instance, teams may have only 3 minutes to come up with their rebuttal.

The topic of debates can be various.

Participants of debates should  appreciate their knowledge of the English language.

I should say the students of Up camp don’t learn to dance , sing  or draw pictures. They don’t  learn to do sums or write compositions. They learn to understand, realize and exercise their individual abilities and potentials. They try to open a unique creator, the thinker, to see their  infinite possibilities.  Every member of the project  has his unique route of development. The student  learns to take a active position in life , filling in a deep and high-quality meaning of existence. The English language as an international language consolidates people in the world.

Many people are faced with this fact every day. In modern world there are many opportunities for learning English. One of the most effective ways of studying English is Up camp.
