  2. to develop
  3. to bring up

Type of the lesson: combined

Procedure

  1. Greeting (2 min.):

T.: Good morning, guests! Good morning, guys!  We are glad to see you at our open class of the English language. How are you doing? Are you ready to work hard today? It is just the very thing I’d like to hear from you! And now tell me please- What date is it today? And what day is it today I wonder? Right you are. Let’s start our lesson.

  1.  Targeting (1 min.):

T.: The theme of our lesson today runs as following “Is it easy to be a teenager?” We will speak about different sides of teenagers’ life, concerns and problems you have. We will speak about teenage free-time activities. We will act out conversations. We’ll try to give advice how to overcome difficulties and to survive nowadays. First, let’s recollect the hobbies that we discussed 2 or 3 lessons ago. Look at the screen.

  1. Warming-up (7 min.):

  1. Revising hobbies looking at the pictures;
  2. Brainstorming.
  3. Phonetic drill: revision and practice the pronunciation of the words of the previous lesson;
  4. Speaking activity: Who is a teenager? What is it like to be a teenager? What problems do teenagers face?

  1. Checking the homework (10 min.):

     Before checking your homework I want you to revise the table that contains the facts of 1 day from the life of American teens. So look at the screen and read the information… It’s time to present your projects. Your task was to find out about teenage problems in our country. You have done it in pairs, i.e. in groups of two.

Group 1 presents a slide-show;

Group 2 presents a poster.

  1. Presentation of new lexical units: average, steady, in fact, part-time job, queue, pocket money, religion, filling, non-smoker (12 min.)
  1. Studying the new words: average - средний, steady - постоянный, in fact - действительно, part-time job – временная работа, queue - очередь, pocket money – карманные деньги, religion - религия, filling – зубная пломба, non-smoker – некурящий.

This time we shall read the text and get acquainted with new facts and figures about British teens. First of all, we need to study the unfamiliar words from this text. Look at the board and repeat after me. Now open your textbooks at page 198 and find the sentences with these words in the text “British Teenagers”. Read them and translate.

  1. Individual work: dividing the text into 4 passages and reading them loudly by the wall;
  2. Pair work: retelling each other their passages and writing down the main facts they have read and heard about;
  3. Exchanging the partners and sharing the whole information;
  4. Group-work: summarizing the facts, preparing a poster and presenting their work.

  1. Drilling (8 min.):
  1. Revision of the grammar (much/many): working with the cards;
  2. Role-playing  the press-conference:

We are going to play a little. Imagine that we are at the press-conference. One of you will be an interviewee, i.e. a person who answers the journalists’ questions. The rest will be journalists. You are to ask questions about British teenagers. The interviewee must be ready to answer them. Is everything clear?

  1. Pair-work: asking each other the questions about the teens of Kazakhstan.

  1. Summary (5 min):
  1. Feedback:

We have worked a lot today. So let’s summarize and tell what new things have we learnt at this lesson? Did you like the lesson? What do you feel now?

  1. Assessment and assignment:

Your marks for your homework and for your activity during the lesson are …

Now open your diaries and write down your  home task: Ex. 15 p.199 (ask all the teens of your school the questions in the table and prepare a report).
