Тема: Teenage Fashion in the UK (Module 1, Culture Corner 1)

Цель урока: совершенствовать коммуникативную компетенцию учащихся.

Задачи: 1. Образовательные:

  • Обобщение и систематизация материала по страноведению.
  • Дальнейшая автоматизация изученного языкового материала.
  • Развитие навыка и умения аналитического чтения
  • Формирование умений говорения на базе прочитанного текста.
  • Развитие навыков монологической речи.
  • Развитие навыков диалогической речи.

2. Развивающие:

  • Развитие познавательных интересов учащихся.
  • Развитие навыков систематизации.
  • Обобщения.

3.Воспитательные: 

  • Воспитывать интерес к изучению иностранного языка.
  • Воспитывать культуру общения, эстетический вкус.
  • Формировать личностные качества: самостоятельность, трудолюбие, творчество.

Тип урока: систематизация и обобщение знаний.

Ход урока

Приветствие:

T: Good morning dear students. I’ m glad to see you again. Let’s greet our guests. You may sit down, please.

How are you?

Who is on duty today?

Who is absent?

Фонетическая разминка.

На доске написана транскрипция скороговорки «Whether the weather is fine

or whether the weather is not,

whether the weather is cold

or whether the weather is hot.

We’ll weather the weather

whatever the weather,

Whether we like it or not.

Учащиеся читают скороговорку хором и друг за другом постепенно наращивая темп.

Подведение к теме урока.

T.: Do you like today's weather? What is the weather like today?

T.: And today we are going to speak about fashion.

T.: Fashion is a term commonly used to describe a style of clothing worn by most of people.

A fashion usually remains popular for about 1-3 years and then it is replaced by another fashion. Even though there are a lot of changes in fashion, most people do not easily except the changes.

T.: Who dictates fashion?

Ss.: Movies ,Musicians and other cultural icons, Political figures and Royalty, Folks

What associations do you have when you think about fashion?

Please, divide into 2 groups and make a list of your associations. You have 2 minutes.

T: Well done. Among your associations you named different kinds of fashion. Let’s see what styles you have mentioned.

T: And which of this styles are you interested in most of all?

Ss.: Teenage fashion.

T.: So let’s speak about teenage fashion.

Pre-reading Activities

T: Everybody knows our appearance is very important. But people in different countries prefer to wear different clothes. And today we are going to speak about teenage fashion in the UK. Young people are so creative nowadays, their styles are so varied.

What kinds of clothes do British teenagers like wearing? (comfortable, cheap clothes, second-hand clothes, modern colourful designs, expensive designer outfits)?

Учащиеся высказывают свои мнения по поводу предпочтений подростков в одежде.

Listening

T: Let’s listen to 3 teenagers from the UK and check if you were right.

T: Were you right? What kinds of clothes do British teenagers like wearing?

Ss: British teenagers like wearing comfortable, cheap clothes like baggy jeans and trainers, second-hand clothes and modern colourful designs.

Reading

T: Well done! And now, please, open your books at page 21. Read the texts about teenagers’ views on clothes and what they like wearing.

Now, please, look the texts through and list all the words related to places teenagers buy their clothes.

 (high street shops, street markets, second-hand shops)

T: Are there similar places in our country?

Ss: Yes, we have similar places to buy clothes in my country.

T: now, please, take a sheet of paper and write as many phrases as you can with the words on it.

The 1st group is to make word combinations with “shopping” and the 2nd group – with “clothes”.

Учащиеся придумывают словосочетания. Затем представитель от каждой команды их зачитывает. После чего команды обмениваются словосочетаниями и составляют предложения со словосочетаниями другой команды.

(shopping expedition, shopping centre/mall, shopping therapy, shopping around, discount shopping, shopping spree, Sunday shopping, late-night shopping, last meaning shopping)

T: And now, please, exchange your phrases and make up sentences with your partners’ combinations.

(There’s a large shopping centre opening in the town centre soon.

Shopping therapy is a good way to cheer yourself up when you feel down.

Shops in my town are open for late-night shopping on Thursdays. Etc).


T: Well done! And now scan the text and сору out the key words to describe teens’ preferences. Fill in the chart:

With a partner, look at the table again. Take turns to tell about your new friend (John, Amy or Lisa).

1) Take roles and interview one of the teenagers in the text.

  1. Amy and John are talking about a present for Lisa.

 Well, John...It’s hard work to find a present for such an unusual person as Lisa.

When it comes to …., tastes differ. As for Lisa, she always ….. in a crowd.

 That’s quite right. You see. I keep up with all the latest trends and spend too much time and money on them but she usually picks up ….. at the street….. and ……shops and looks …..!

That’s an idea! Why not go to the second - hand shop?

You must be joking! It would be awful to give her something used as a birthday present.

Not at all. She’s….. enough and has a good sense of dress to ….. things together and feel comfortable.

 In this case she must have a good sense of humour! By the way, I know a high street shop full of …… but ….. clothes not far from here. Let’s go!

  • Amy, what about a present for John? Any ideas?
  • – No problem. He’s keen on …..and not bothered about …..names and ….., so...
  • – So, you mean we should buy him another pair of ….. or, say, a …...
  • – Sure. His clothes often ….. when he falls off his skateboard.
  • – Well...On the one hand, he …..to cheaper clothes, on the other hand, he likes being….. . I  suggest buying him a …..T- shirt made by a top designer for a change.

– We see eye to eye. I’m all for it!

– Amy, what about a present for John? Any ideas?

– No problem. He’s keen on skateboarding and not bothered about brand names and logos, so...

– So, you mean we should buy him another pair of jeans or, say, a hoodie.

– Sure. His clothes often rips when he falls off his skateboard.

– Well...On the one hand, he sticks to cheaper clothes, on the other hand, he likes being well - dressed. I suggest buying him a trendy T- shirt made by a top designer for a change.

– We see eye to eye. I’m all for it!

  • John, what are you doing in the evening?
  • – Nothing ….. . Why?
  • – Don’t you remember about Amy’s birthday? It’s time to buy a present.

  • – Never mind. You know she ….. up with all the ….. trends and we can buy something ….. .
  • – It’s so easy to be fashionable if you can ….. much time and money in the shops!
  • – Stop grumbling! Lots of top designers make clothes for the cheaper, high street shops. They are full of trendy, …..clothes.
  • – That suits me. Let’s …..the shops!
