Chelyuskin Wreck In February 1934 Chelyuskin steamship was crushed by Arctic ice in the Chukchi Sea. 104 crewmembers and passengers set their base on pack ice. It was a huge ice desert with a tiny block of ice where survivors were struggling for life. Severe snow were followed by thaw and people might find themselves in cold water.

Chelyuskin Rescue Seven pilots on Polikarpov R-5 biplanes led by Nikolai Kamanin came to survivors` rescue. They faced a lot of hardships, difficulties and dangers. Landing and flying up was extremely difficult (complicated) for biplanes because of small size of an improvised airfield. The weather could worsen at any moment. Severe snowstorms were followed by thaw and people might find themselves in cold water. Biplanes could ferry (transport) only 3 men per a flight. The brave pilots didn`t give up. They did their best and evacuated the ice camp on 13 April 1934.

Space Program From 1960 to 1971 General Kamanin was the head of cosmonaut training in the Soviet space program. He recruited and trained the first generation of cosmonauts, including Yuri Gagarin, Gherman Titov and Alexei Leonov . It was Kamanin who on 17-18 January 1961 chaired the Examination Committee that evaluated first six cosmonauts prepared for Vostok program. Kamanin rated Yuri Gagarin, Gherman Titov and Grigori Nelyubov as the best candidates. In April 1961 Kamanin recommended Gagarin for the flight with Titov on backup.

Nikolai Petrovich Kamanin Nikolai Petrovich Kamanin (18 October – 11 March 1982) was a Soviet aviator, awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union in 1934 for the rescue of SS Chelyuskin crew from an improvised airfield on the frozen surface of the Chukchi sea near Kolyuchin Island. In World War II he successfully commanded an air brigade, air division and air crops, reaching the rank of Airforce Colonel General and Air Army commander after the war. From 1960 to 1971 General Kamanin was the head of cosmonaut training in the Soviet space program.

Nikolai Kamanin was born on 18 October 1908 into the family of a shoemaker in Melenki (Vladimir Governorate ). B . He was very friendly, active and enthusiastic at school. Thanks to his leading traits the Komsomol members of school 1 elected him the secretary of the Komsomol Committee. A. For his excellent service Arkady Kamanin received two combat Orders of the Red Star, the Order of the Red Banner. E. From 1960 to 1971 General Kamanin was the head of cosmonaut training in the Soviet space program. He recruited and trained the first generation of cosmonauts, including Yuri Gagarin, Gherman Titov and Alexei Leonov . G. In 1971 Kamanin retired after the accident when the crew of Soyuz 11 was killed by decompression on their landing run.

Nikolai Petrovich Kamanin (18 October 1908 – 11 March 1982) We should always remember this name. Because it belonged to the man who was highly courageous and brave. We should always remember this person b ecause our native town was his nurse. And such people are known in the huge universe.

Nikolai Kamanin was always there where country needed him most of all When the space era began He was one of those men Who worked out the program and thought About preparation of Future cosmonauts. When he retired Because Soyuz 11 didn`t Well land, He wasn`t tired and remained active till his end.

Heroes… Who are they? Heroes… Who are they? I think they are people Who didn`t lead quiet life, Who always were ready to fight With difficulties, for peace and freedom. They didn`t want to be awarded, They had a talent of another order. They helped their country not for gratitude But because of their respectful attitude. Some of heroes lived not long ago But we know little about them though.
