ТЕМА: St. Valentine’s Day (ДЕНЬ СВЯТОГО ВАЛЕНТИНА)

ЦЕЛИ:

- Активировать лексику по теме «Праздники», развивать умение применять материал в практических ситуациях;

- развить умение критически мыслить;

-развить умение работать в сотрудничестве с другими;

- развивать умение запросить информацию, способность к догадке, воображению, память; расширять кругозор учащихся;

-создание в классе атмосферы открытости и ответственного сотрудничества;

- развивать мотивацию к дальнейшему овладению английским языком; обеспечить в ходе урока изучение таких вопросов, как дружба, любовь и т.д.

НАГЛЯДНЫЙ МАТЕРИАЛ:  смарт-доска, компьютер, раздаточный материал.

Ход урока:

Вступление: (1 стадия: Вызов--актуализация имеющихся знаний;-пробуждение интереса к получению новой информации;- постановка учеником собственных целей обучения.)

Teacher: Dear students! You are welcome to our lesson dedicated to St. Valentine’s Day. As far as you know this holiday is celebrated in many countries on February 14th.

Прием 1: (Составление списка «известной информации»: рассказ-предположение по ключевым словам):

Teacher: You will see on the board different symbols and pictures and your task is to guess which of them are connected to St. Valentine’s Day. After in you have to try to build a little story about this holiday.

(Ученики называют номера картинок посвященных  празднику и на основе этой информации строят небольшой рассказ о Дне Святого Валентина.)

Pupil: This is a very popular holiday in Europe and America. It’s a day of love and friendship. We send greetings cards to our sweethearts and friends and ask them “be my Valentine”. It means “be my beloved”, or “be my friend”. We also decorate our classrooms with big red hears and give red roses and chocolates to our sweethearts, friends and family.

(Этот праздник очень популярен в Европе и Америке. Этот день любви и дружбы, но не только возлюбленных, но и членов семьи, друзей, родственников. Мы посылаем в этот день открытки возлюбленным и друзьям и призываем их «будь моим Валентином». Это означает «будь моим (моей) возлюбленной или другом(подругой)». Мы украшаем помещения, где проходят праздники, красными сердцами, и дарим розы как символ любви и счастья.)

Прием 2: (Выбор из списка верных и неверных утверждений о данном празднике).

Teacher: You will see on the board different statements and your task is to guess which of them are correct and which are not. After in you have to try to build a little story about this holiday.

(Ученики называют номера верных утверждений о  празднике и на основе этой информации строят небольшое дополнение к рассказу о Дне Святого Валентина.)

Pupil: The method of choosing sweethearts on St. Valentine’s Day varied in different times and places. It could be a serious matter, leading to marriage or it could be a kind of a game. (Как выбрать подругу/друга в день Святого Валентина? Это происходило по - разному в разные времена и в разных местах. Это могло быть и серьезным намерением, а могло быть всего лишь игрой.)

Teacher: Now you have to try to answer some questions:

1-How do you think people show their love?

2- What is your opinion about celebrating this holiday?

3- What do the words mean: “Be my Valentine”?

Text:

It's that time of the year when couples show their love for each other by sending cards, flowers and chocolates. But Valentine's Day is not only about public displays of affection: in recent years it has also become big business. In the UK alone, more than GBP20 million is spent on flowers, whilst in the United States over $1 billion is forked out on chocolates.

    Although Valentine's Day has become a global industry with more than 80 million roses sold worldwide, the origins of the day are unclear and hidden in the mists of time. Nobody knows exactly who St Valentine was, although some historians suggest he was a Roman martyred in the third century AD by a Roman Emperor. It is said that the first recorded Valentine's card was sent by the imprisoned Duke of Orleans in 1415. It is believed that he sought solace from his confinement by writing love poems to his wife.

    Valentine's Day, or its equivalent, is now celebrated in many countries around the world. However, the traditions often differ from place to place. In Japan, for example, it is customary for the woman to send chocolates to the man, whilst in Korea April 14th is known as 'Black Day' and is when the unfortunate men who received nothing on Valentine's Day gather to eat noodles and commiserate with each other.

    Technological developments have also played their part in keeping Valentine's Day relevant in the 21st century. Valentine's e-cards have been all the rage in recent years. However, internet security experts urge web users to be wary as malicious hackers could use e-cards to spread viruses and spyware.

    Valentine's cards can also be used for less than romantic purposes. Police in the UK city of Liverpool sent Valentine's cards to criminals who failed to appear in court or have not paid fines. The cards contained the verse, "Roses are red, violets are blue, you've got a warrant, and we'd love to see you." Who says romance is dead?
