Task 1. Read the text and choose the best answer, A, B, C or D, to questions 1-5.

`New York

New York, America’s largest city,  is the national leader in business, finance, manufacturing, the service industries, fashion and the arts. Its history begins with an Italian navigator, Giovanni da Verrazano, who about 1524 sailed into the present New York bay. In 1609 Captain Henry Hudson explored the harbor and the river, later named after him. In 1624 Dutch colonists arrived and settled the permanent settlement, named New Amsterdam. The following year the Dutch West Indian Company bought the whole island of Manhattan from Indians for a few trinkets. Dutch was the official language of New Amsterdam, but before its population reached 500 it was reported that 18 different languages were spoken there. In 1663 the colony was captured by the British fleet under Duke of York and renamed New York, but the Dutch and those who came with them stayed, so far from the very first years of its existence New York was truly an international city.

New York was active in the colonial opposition to Britain and several battles were fought in this area. In 1778 the British conquered the city and controlled it for the rest of the war. When in November 1783 the Americans returned, they found New York in a very poor state. Out of its 4000 buildings, 1000 had been burned and the rest were hardly inhabitable. An energetic programme of general reconstruction was taken. Within the next four years the population doubled and in 1800 reached 60 000. By 1815 the value of imports arriving in New York harbor was double of that of Boston and three times that of Philadelphia, the major colonial ports before the revolutionary War. The construction of the Erie Canal, the bridge canal between Buffalo, on Lake Erie, and Albany, on the Hudson, was built in 1826. It cut travel time one-third, shipping costs nine-tenth, opened the Great Lakes area and made New York City chief Atlantic port of the USA. The opening of the Erie Canal accelerated even more the expansion of the city, already the nation’s largest.

After the Civil War of 1861-1865, industrial development was improved and brought a massive wave of immigration from all over the world. During the 19th century the city expanded northwest from the tip of Manhattan and by 1784 included the whole island as well as the territory of the present Bronx. In 1898 New York assumed its boundaries annexing Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island.

11.   According to the passage, the settlement on the Hudson River was started by

A   Captain Henry Hudson.

B   Giovanni da Verrazano.

C   the Dutch West Indian Company.

D   immigrants from the Netherlands.

12.   Which of the following is not true?

C  New Amsterdam was renamed New York in honour of Duke of York .

D   New Amsterdam was an international city.

 13.    The plan for general reconstruction was adopted because

A   the population of New York doubled.

B   New Yorkers took an active part in the Revolutionary War .

      C   5000 houses were burned.

D   3000 houses were hardly inhabitable.

 14.    Which of the following is true?

A Before the Revolutionary War Boston was the largest colonial port.

B   Before the Revolutionary War New York was the largest colonial port.

C After the Revolutionary War the port of Philadelphia was larger than the port of Boston.

D  During the Revolutionary War the port of New York was larger than the port of Boston.

 15.     Why was the construction of Erie Canal so important?

A  Erie Canal made New York the major port of the US.

B   Erie Canal decreased travel fare three times.

C   Goods were transported at a lower price.

D   According to the construction of Erie Canal the Great Lakes were discovered.

Task 2.

 Marie Tussaud

Marie Tussaud was born in Strasbourg in 1761. Her father died two months before she was born, and her family moved to Switzerland. Her mother worked for a German doctor. The doctor was a kind man who enjoyed making wax models of parts of the human body. He soon got a reputation for making good likeness of people’s heads as well.

He moved to Paris because he wanted to earn money by making models of the rich and famous. Soon Marie and her mother joined him in Paris. When she was six years old, the doctor taught her how to work in wax. Her portraits became so popular that by the time she was twenty she was living in the Palace of Versailles because the royal family invited her to live there.

The French Revolution started in 1789, and this was the beginning of hard times for Marie. However, she met and married Francois Tussaud, who was an engineer. They had three children, a daughter who died and two sons.

In 1802 she received permission from Napoleon to go to London because she wanted to take her waxwork collection to England. She went round Britain and Ireland with her four-year-old son and her shows were a great success. She never saw France or her husband again.

She opened her exhibition centre in London in 1835, and it has been in the same place ever since. Marie died in 1850. Madam Tussaud’s is now London’s most popular tourist attraction. About 2.2 million people visit it every year.

Scott: Dave, I am going to the supermarket to buy food and drink for Saturday’s picnic later. Any suggestions?

Dave: Well, everyone has been talking about having a barbecue down by the river, so why don’t you  pick up some hamburgers and hot dogs?

Scott: Okay, but how much hamburgers meat are we going to need? And hot dogs too?

Dave: Uh, I don’t know. How about three pounds of hamburgers and a couple packages of hot dogs?

Scott: Oh, that’s not going to be enough. Do you remember the last picnic we went on? Your roommate, Jim, ate about ten hamburgers by himself!

Dave: You are right. Let’s see. I’d better write this down. Uh, let’s see about nine pounds of hamburgers meat and, uh,.., seven packages of hot dogs.

Scott: And you better buy some chicken for  those who don’t like hamburgers or hot dogs.

Dave: Okay. How about five or six bags of potato chips?

Scott: Hhh. Better make that eight or so.

Dave:  Alright,. Oh, and we are going to need some hamburgers and hot dog buns. How about five packages? I think that sounds about right.

Scott:  Yeah, you better  pick up some mustard, ketchup, and mayonnaise  too.

Dave: Okay. What else? Uh, we are going to need  some soft drinks. How about ten of those big 2-liter bottles?

Scott: Sounds fine.

Dave: Okay, and what about desserts?

Scott: Well, maybe we could  ask Kathy to make a few cherry pies like she did last time.

Dave: Well, I would mind that, but you know, she’s been very busy  working two jobs, so I’d hate to ask her. Why don’t you make some of your oatmeal cookies? You could ask Susan to help you!

Scott: OK. I’ll think of it.

READING  Read the text and then answer questions 11-15

Different Colours can affect us in many different ways; that’s according to Verity Allen.  In her new series «Colour me Healthy”, Verity looks at the ways that colours can influence how hard we work and the choices we make.  They can even change our emotions and even influence how healthy we are.

«Have you ever noticed how people always use the same colours for the same things?» says Verity.  “Our toothpaste is always white or blue or maybe red.  It’s never green.  Why not?  For some reason we think that blue and white is clean, while we think of green products as being a bit disgusting.  It’s the same for businesses.  We respect a company, which writes its name in blue or black, but we don’t respect one that uses pink or orange.  People who design new products can use these ideas to influence what we buy.”

During this four-part series, Verity studies eight different colours, two colours in each programme.  She meets people who work in all aspects of the colour industry, from people who design food packets, to people who name the colours of lipsticks.  Some of the people she meets clearly have very little scientific knowledge to support their ideas, such as the American “Colour Doctor” who believes that serious diseases can be cured by the use of coloured lights.  However, she also interviews real scientists who are studying the effects of green and red lights on mice, with some surprising results.

Overall, it’s an interesting show, and anyone who watches it will probably find out something new.  But because Verity is goes out of her way to be polite to everyone she meets on the series, it’s up to the viewers to make their own decisions about how much they should believe.

11. What is the writer doing in this text?

  1. giving information about how colours influence us
  2. reporting what happens in a new television series
  3. giving information about a television presenter
  4. giving his opinion of a recent television show

12. Which of the following shows the probable content of the four shows?

  1. Part 1 – Health; Part 2 – Products and Industry; Part 3 – Emotions; Part 4 – Decisions
  2. Part 1 – Blue and Black; Part 2 – Red and Orange; Part 3 – White and Grey; Part 4 – Green and Yellow
  3. Part 1 – Meeting Designers; Part 2 – Meeting People who Name Colours; Part 3 – Meeting Doctors; Part 4 – Meeting Scientists
  4. Part 1 – Cleaning Products; Part 2 – Make-up; Part 3 – Clothes; Part 4 – Food

13. According to Verity, why is a knowledge of colour important?

  1. It can help you to choose the best products.
  2. It can give you new ideas.
  3. It can help you to change people’s minds.
  4. It can help you to sell products.

14. Who does the writer respect least?

  1. VerityAllen
  2. Thepeoplewhonamelipsticks
  3. The «ColourDoctor»
  4. The scientists who work with mice

15. Which of the following would make a good title for the text?

  1. Enjoy it, but don’t believe everything.
  2. Another great show from Verity Allen! FiveStars!
  3. Don’t miss this if you work in Business!
  4. Watch this programme! It will make you healthy!

I тур 10-11 класс Reading and Use of English

Part 1:

You are going to read an article about social networks. Choose the correct answer A, B, C or D for each question.

Social networks

Business applications
Social networks connect people at low cost; this can be beneficial for entrepreneurs and small businesses looking to expand their contact base. These networks often act as a customer relationship management tool for companies selling products and services. Companies can also use social networks for advertising in the form of banners and text ads. Since businesses operate globally, social networks can make it easier to keep in touch with contacts around the world.
Medical applications
Social networks are beginning to be adopted by healthcare professionals as a means to manage institutional knowledge, disseminate peer to peer knowledge and to highlight individual physicians and institutions. The advantage of using a dedicated medical social networking site is that all the members are screened against the state licensing board list of practitioners. The role of social networks is especially of interest to pharmaceutical companies who spend approximately "32 percent of their marketing dollars" attempting to influence the opinion leaders of social networks.
Languages, nationalities and academia
Various social networking sites have
sprung up catering to different languages and countries. The popular site Facebook has been cloned for various countries and languages and some specializing in connecting students and faculty.
Social networks for social good
Several websites are beginning to tap into the power of the social networking model for social good. Such models may be highly successful for connecting otherwise fragmented industries and small organizations without the resources to reach a broader audience with interested and passionate users. Users benefit by interacting with a like-minded community and finding a channel for their energy and giving.
Business model
Few social networks currently charge money for membership. In part, this may be because social networking is a relatively new service, and the value of using them has not been firmly established in customers' minds. Companies such as MySpace and Facebook sell online advertising on their site. Hence, they are seeking large memberships, and charging for membership would be counterproductive. Some believe that the deeper information that the sites have on each user will allow much better targeted advertising than any other site can currently provide. Sites are also seeking other ways to make money, such as by creating an online marketplace or by selling professional information and social connections to businesses.
Privacy issues
On large social networking services, there have been growing concerns about users giving out too much personal information and the threat of sexual predators. Users of these services need to be aware of data theft or viruses. However, large services, such as MySpace, often work with law enforcement to try to prevent such incidents. In addition, there is a perceived privacy threat in relation to placing too much personal information in the hands of large corporations or governmental bodies, allowing a profile to be produced on an individual's behavior on which decisions, detrimental to an individual, may be taken.
Investigations
Social network services are increasingly being used in legal and criminal investigations. Information posted on sites such as MySpace and Facebook, has been used by police, probation, and university officials to prosecute users of said sites. In some situations, content posted on MySpace has been used in court.

Part 2:

You are going to read an article about the making of an unusual television commercial. Seven sentences have been removed from the article on the left. Choose the most suitable sentence from the list A-H for each part (1-7) of the article. There is one extra sentence which you do not need to use.

The Making of 'Tipping Point'

Many of the most expensive commercials ever made are those in which an A-list celebrity flashes a beautiful smile at the cameras.

1.________________________________________________________________ Their recent television advertisement, the most expensive in British history, cost ten million pounds, and it features, not the rich and famous, but villagers from the mountains of Argentina.

The advertisement features a game of dominoes. It begins in a darkened room where several thousand ordinary dominoes are set up on a specially-designed table.

2._________________________________________________________________

Dominoes knock over books, which in turn knock bigger household objects such as suitcases, tyres, pots of paint, oil drums and even cars. The final piece in the chain reaction is a huge tower of books. These flutter open to reveal a structure in the shape of a pint of Guinness.

The location chosen for the commercial was Iruya, a village high up in the mountains of north-west Argentina.

3._________________________________________________________________ The journey there could take up to ten hours. Asked why this remote destination was chosen for the shoot, the director said that even though it was the most difficult location they could have picked, it was perfect.

For one month, the village, population thousand, increased in size by almost thirty percent. One hundred and forty crew members descended on the village. These included the world record holders in domino toppling, Weijers Domino productions from the Netherlands. 4. _________________________________________________

Creating this film was no easy task. Preparations for filming took well over a month. Twenty six truckloads of objects were brought in. 5.____________________________________________________________________They included 10,000 books, 400 tires, 75 mirrors, 50 fridges, 45 wardrobes and 6 cars. Setting the objects up took skill and patience. They needed to be arranged so they would fall over easily, and this involved balancing them on stones. Some of the sequences had to be reshot 15 times and 24 hours of footage was captured. However, the sequence in which six cars fell over was successfully shot in just one take.

Filming in this location was not without its difficulties. Firstly, being so isolated, it was hard to obtain resources at short notice. The second problem was the high altitude. 6._____________________________________________________________ It was also hard working with the villagers who had no experience of film-making. Finally, setting and resetting the props caused a good deal of frustration.

These days when CGI is all the rage, it was surprising that so little of the work was done using computer effects. The only sequence that used computer graphics was the one in which the tower of books fluttered open to reveal a pint of Guinness. 7.___________________________________________________________ Even so, this was no simple matter. They had to ensure that all the books in the tower had a different appearance.
Director Nicolai Fuglsig said about the project: ‘Despite all the challenges, the cast was fantastic and it was a really amazing experience. Whether or not the effort put into the advert pays off is another matter entirely’.

A.  Then the falling dominoes head out of the room into the streets, causing progressively larger objects to tumble.
B.  These were all chosen to suit the town and fit in with the people’s way of life.
C.  Getting there involved driving along 48 kilometres of dirt roads and crossing twelve rivers.
D
.  Iruya is situated 3000 metres above sea level and the film crew was not used to working in such conditions.
E.  The prop department did construct a small version on site, but most of the work was done in a studio in London.
F.  Added to this was the total of one hundred and thirty 'actors' who were recruited from a five neighbouring towns.
G.  Setting up the dominoes on the table took a team of experts three days, but took just 14 seconds to topple.
H.  Not so with the famous Irish drink company Guinness.

Part 3:

You are going to read an article in which four people comment on a book they have read recently. For questions 1-15, choose from the people A-D. The people may be chosen more than once.

A.  Sundance by Teresa Wilson
Kerry:
I really don't know why this book is so popular. I mean, I suppose it is going to appeal to young girls who want danger and romance, but I found this book really tedious. For a start, the characters were really unconvincing. The author went out of her way to add lots of details about the characters, but I found these details really pointless. I thought that some of the facts she presented about the main characters would become significant in some way later in the novel, but they didn't. They were just worthless bits of information. I also was disappointed that, although this book is meant to be about kids at high school, the writer seems to have no recollection at all about what it's like to be 17. The main character thought and acted like a 32-year old. It just wasn't believable. I'm not saying Teresa Wilson is a bad writer. She can obviously string words together and come up with a story that is appealing to a large number of people, but she lacks anything original. There is no flair. It just uses the same sort of language as you can see in many other mediocre novels.

B. Wild Ways by Margery Emerson
Liz:
I have to say that I won't forget this book for a long time. I was hooked from the very first chapter. The devastating story affected me so much that I don't know if I'll ever feel the same again. I was close to tears on several occasions. I've got images in my brain now that I don't think will ever leave me. It's incredibly well-researched and, although it is fiction, is based on shocking real-life events. I learned an awful lot about things that went on that I never knew before. Margaret Emerson has a brilliant way with words and I really felt real empathy towards the characters, although I was sometimes irritated by the choices they made. However, the parallel story, the part that is set in the present, is not quite so good. I found myself just flicking through that part so that I could get back to 1940s Paris.

C. Orchid by Henry Rathbone
Imogen:
This is a delightful novel full of wonderful imagery, a paints a remarkable picture of life in a distant time and a far-away place. If you're looking to learn about Eastern culture in great detail, then this is probably not the book for you, as the writer skims over most of the more complicated aspects of the country's etiquette. The historical aspects are also not covered in much depth. However, I wonder whether this was the writer's intention. By doing this, he symbolizes  the superficiality of the girl's life. She, like the book, is beautiful and eager to please, but remains too distant from us, the readers, to teach us much. Although I loved the book and read it in one sitting, the ending was a bit of a disappointment. A story which involves so much turmoil, in a place where the future is uncertain, should not have a happy-ever-after fairy-tale ending.

D. High Hills by Mary Holland
Hannah:
I read this book for a literature class. I know it's a classic, and I did try to like it, but I just didn't get into it. I kept persevering, hoping that I'd start to enjoy it, but no such luck. The famous scene out on the moors was definitely the best bit of the book, but even that I found ridiculous when it is clearly supposed to be passionate. As I approached the end of the book, I figured there must be some kind of moral to the story, something that I would learn from the experience of trudging through seven hundred long pages, but there was nothing worthwhile. I don't know why the literary world sees this book as such a masterpiece. The characters are portrayed as being intelligent, but they do such stupid things! And as for it being a
love story - marrying someone you don't love and then being abused by them - that doesn't spell love to me.

Which person read a book which...

1. was set in an Oriental country

2. finished in an unrealistic way
3. had characters that the reader could sympathise with
4. is well-known and was written a long time ago
5. contained two stories
6. was not set in the past
7. was historically accurate
8. made the reader cry
9. contained insignificant details
10. has a well-known scene

11. is written for teenagers
12. had unbelievable characters
13. is classed as romantic fiction

14. contains nothing new in the way of writing
15. has an attractive but shallow heroine

Something strange falls from the sky

Mikayla Shears was riding her horse across the fields at the farm where she and her parents live in Australia last November, when she saw something very strange on the ground. 'At first I was afraid to touch it!' she said. 'I thought something may jump out of it!' It was a 22 kilo ball made of lots of different metal parts.

Mikayla called her dad and he came in a truck and drove it back to the farmhouse. People don't drive hundreds of miles across the desert area to leave a metal ball in the middle of a field. 'It dropped from above!' he said. 'I was sure of that!'

Mikayla's father emailed a photo of the ball to the Planet Museum. He was told that the ball was possibly part of a rocket. Two days earlier a rocket was used to fly an American satellite into space to study the sun. Most of it fell into the sea after the satellite was safely in space, but maybe this part didn't.

'I know a lot about cows and sheep,' Mikayla said, 'but I don't know anything about rockets. I want to find out more about them now. Perhaps I'll be an astronaut one day!'

Example:        0        Mikayla lives on a farm in Australia.

                A Right        В Wrong        С Doesn't say

Answer:        0 – A

  1. Mikayla saw something that looked very unusual in the field.

A Right        В Wrong        С Doesn't say

A Right        В Wrong        С Doesn't say

  1. Mikayla drove back to collect the metal ball in her father's truck.

A Right        В Wrong        С Doesn't say

  1. Mikayla's dad was certain that the ball fell from the sky.

A Right        В Wrong        С Doesn't say

  1. An American from the Planet Museum emailed Mikayla.

A Right        В Wrong        С Doesn't say

  1. We know that the metal ball came from another planet in space.

A Right        В Wrong        С Doesn't say

  1. Mikayla is thinking about being an astronaut in the future!

The young people below all want to do an art course during their school holidays.

There are descriptions of eight short art courses.

Decide which course would be the most suitable for the following people.

For questions 6-10, mark the correct letter A-H on your answer sheet.

Alice wants a course to help her with her drawing skills, particularly with drawing the latest styles of clothes, shoes and bags, because she wants to study this later at college.

Darius loves making comic books, but isn't confident about his drawing. He wants to draw superheroes and animals and create adventures about them, but doesn't want to display his work.

Cassie enjoys making pictures and objects from different materials. During the course she'd like to use her love of sport in her designs, and visit an exhibition to get new ideas.

Marc is talented at drawing, but also likes filming his friends on an old digital camera. He wants to develop this skill by learning to use more advanced equipment, and prepare for further study.

Harry has done a course about printing on paper, and would like to learn how to print on other materials. He also wants to produce something to take home and wear.

Short Art Courses

A        Wild Art

This course concentrates on teaching drawing and painting, and you'll use your new skills to make a wall poster on the theme of animals, to take home. And we've got lots of picture books from galleries around the world to give you ideas! There'll be an exhibition of everyone's work at the end, too.

B        Colourscape

Come and make a bag to keep your school games clothes in! We supply lots of colourful wool and printed cotton - you choose the design and colour (like your favourite football or hockey team colours!). There'll also be a trip to a gallery to help you get creative in your designs.

C        Create!

This course is all about telling good stories in pictures. There'll be cartoon films to watch, and instruction in how to draw your favourite characters - but your imagination is much more important than your drawing skills here! The course includes a visit to a cartoon museum.

D        Art Attack

You'll work on developing creative skills, like printing, photography, cartoons and movie-making, using the latest technology. This course is great for anyone wanting to take these subjects at college. Good drawing skills are helpful on this course, and students' work will be put into a book, where suitable, for everyone to buy.

E        Art Matters

This course will concentrate on different drawing techniques, including using inks and colour. We'll get you to draw live models wearing designer fashions and sportswear - so if you like designing fashion and think your future is in this area, then this course is for you!

F        Art Magic

This fun course shows you how to design and make fashion jewellery from natural materials, and particularly how to use photography to help you get ideas for your designs. So if you have your own camera, bring it along!

G        Arts Centre

Ever wondered what your comic stories would look like on film? Here's your chance to find out! Bring along your own comic drawings or prints - good- quality ones if possible - and we'll transfer the action from your page onto the screen! Film show of the best cartoons at the end!

H        Rainbow

Bring along a clean white T-shirt for this fun course! Using printing inks and paints, we'll show you how to transfer a picture onto your T-shirt and create a special artwork that you can put on for everyone to admire!

Dolphin Trip

By Paul Hannan

My family have always been huge fans of New Zealand - my mum comes from the capital - so we saved up and went for a holiday there. We started with a week in the city she grew up in. After that, we toured around for a while before ending up by chance in Kaikoura, a small town on the coast. The first evening it seemed a rather dull place, but the next day I remembered what I'd read about it - that it was often possible to see dolphins and whales there! I'll always think of Kaikoura as the place where I finally achieved my lifelong ambition - to swim with wild dolphins.

My family and I set off on a dolphin trip on a cold, grey day with a number of other people on a small boat. However, the sky soon turned blue, and we raced across the waves in the sunshine until we finally reached the place where we were supposed to go swimming. To my surprise, this was more than 40 km from land. I was quite cold by this time, and really starting to wonder why my family had made me come all the way out there, when suddenly someone shouted 'Dolphins!'.

All I could see were fins everywhere - there were more than a hundred dolphins, all swimming towards our boat! Many of them were jumping around in the water as if they were asking us to come and play. I put on my snorkel and jumped into the sea. Everywhere I looked, all I could see was dolphins, swimming under me and round me. Then I remembered the guide had told us to make sounds in the water to attract them. So I did and actually heard them making similar sounds, as if they were trying to answer me. I even made eye contact with one dolphin, and watched it carefully as I swam round in a circle. Amazingly, the dolphin almost followed me, but then changed its mind, although it kept eye contact with me all the time. It really made me realise how intelligent and beautiful these creatures are.

Then after an hour of swimming the guides called us to get back onto the boat. Although I had enjoyed myself, I was keen to leave the water by then as I was very cold. As I got dry I noticed that everyone on board was smiling and I realised what a very special moment we'd had.

I'll never forget that experience, and Kaikoura will always have a special place in my heart.

One to watch!

Essay by Jessica Bourne, aged 14

I'm a big fan of films featuring the spy James Bond. I've got most of them on DVD. We've recently bought Quantum of Solace, in which Daniel Craig plays the part of Bond. I don't know why the film's got that name - but it's a great movie, anyway.

All the actors who've played James Bond have been great, but Daniel Craig, who's made lots of other films, plays the part better than any of them. Even though he doesn't talk very much, I think he's the most perfect actor for the role. He even does a few of the more dangerous things in the film himself, instead of getting someone else to do them. I did wonder sometimes whether he'd be clever enough to defeat the bad people - but I'm not going to tell you the ending! The actress who stars with Craig gives a fantastic performance too -1 loved all the glamorous clothes she wore!

The director probably had a hard job making this Bond film as full of action as earlier ones. But the excitement starts right at the beginning here, with a car chase along a mountain road, and plenty of other thrilling scenes, too - Bond leaping off tall buildings and so on. Unfortunately I found the story difficult to follow in places, and it also seemed to be over very quickly - it lasted under two hours. I also felt there weren't as many jokes as in the old Bond films. And where was all the ridiculous Bond equipment - the underwater car or exploding watch that everyone laughed at? This is a more serious, darker Bond film, but I still really enjoyed it.

  1. What is Jessica trying to do in her essay?

A        explain what first attracted her to Bond films

В        tell readers about the Bond DVDs she owns

С        give a balanced view of a Bond film she has seen

D        describe how Daniel Craig got the part of James Bon

  1. What can a reader find out from Jessica's essay?

A        whether Quantum of Solace is her favourite Bond film

В        what other films Daniel Craig has made

С        which other actors have played James Bond

D        whether she thinks Daniel Craig is the best James Bond

  1. What does Jessica tell us about Craig in the new Bond film?

A        He performs some of the action scenes.

В        He wears some stylish clothes.

С        He is given a lot of lines to say.

D        He looks strong and fit enough to fight the criminals.

  1. What is one problem with the film, according to Jessica?

A It seems a bit too long.

В It's sometimes hard to understand what's happening.

С It has too much silly technology in it.

D It has jokes that aren't very funny.

  1. Which of these might appear in a magazine review of the new Bond film?

A

It's full of excitement, with Bond jumping across rooftops, so don't be disappointed by the slow start.

B

The director wanted to move away from the last Bond film and include a bit less action.

C

I'm not sure the title tells you much ... but be prepared to watch a rather different kind of Bond movie.

D

Daniel Craig performed well as James Bond, but the main female star was disappointing.
