               Pavlovo on the Oka river - a town of my heart.

  Russia is one of the biggest   and strongest countries in the world.  It consists of many cities and   small towns. I am going to speak about a small town I live in. Pavlovo –on the Oka river. The town was founded in 1566. A legend says that   Pavlovowanamed  after Paul Carrier. We can see the monument to Paul Carrier in the centre.                 The monument was created in 2016.

  Our museum plays a very important role in the history of  Pavlovo. It is located in the building which was  Gomulin’s  manor many years ago.  He was a famous Rassian  merchant. Pavlovo is famous for its locks. The smallest and the biggest one you can see in our museum. People say that in the19th century a Turkish Pasha was so glad to get our locks that he presented our town with some lemon stalks.                                 In 2005 our craftsmen erected a beautiful monument to the lemon.

  Also our craft town, is famous for goose fights, which take place every spring in Pavlovo  and  a lot  of  people  attend such events.

  The decoration and beauty of our churches can fascinate not only believers but ordinary people. And of course I cannot  help but say that the monument  to  Katuasha – a symbol of   heroism and  courage was  situated in the  centre of  our  town  after   World  WarII .

   It is not a secret that each person loves   his home town, so do I. I can say about Paviovo : « Small  spool but  the  roads».

Introduction

Terrorism is not new, and even though it has been used since the beginning of recorded history it can be relatively hard to define. Terrorism has been described variously as both a tactic and strategy; a crime and a holy duty. Nowadays it is a danger of our generation. It is a word that strikes fear into us.

There are a lot of causes of terrorism: religion, politics and hate between nations for example Israel and Palestine’s conflict due to religious beliefs.

I’m interested in this problem because a lot of children and teenagers are involved in terrorist groups.

Besides I would like to solve the Following task:

  1. To understand what is the main reason for terrorism.
  2. To find out what is teenagers’ attitude to terrorism.
  3. To analyze what kinds of terrorism are existed nowadays.
  4. To try to understand how people and the government can avoid terrorism.

I plan to make a sociological research among teenagers of 7-11 forms.

In my research I need to consider such important aspects like:

  1. What   do teenagers think about terrorism?
  2. What is the history of terrorism?
  3. Types of terrorism incidents
  4. Goals and motivations of terrorism
  5. Famous acts of terrorism.
  6. The problem needs to be solved

The survey of   reviewed

Firstly, I have made up some questions to get answers from pupils and to understand the current situation.

There are my questions:

  1. Have you ever heard about terrorism?
  2. What do you think is the reason of terrorism?
  3. Has anybody tried to involve you into terrorist groups?
  4. Do you think terrorism is a “young” problem?
  5. How would you solve this problem if you were a politician?

The research

 All the information I offer is based on my sociological research.

Modern students know a lot of about terrorism because it is one of the most serious problems of our world which has been around since the beginning of time. 50% of young people are sure that religion is not the only reason of this problem, money, oil and hate between people are also play a big role in existence of terrorism.

40% think that religion is the main reason and 10% are sure that the reason is hate between people. Students from our school have never been involved into any groups connecting with terrorism, but there is some information in the Internet that young people in N. Novgorod has been involved in such groups.

Some students imagined that they are politicians and offered their solutions of this problem. They call people to respect each other and religion of every nation.

What do teenagers think about terrorism?

It is difficult to understand but 10 % of students think that terrorism is a normal way of fighting for your beliefs and principles. They are sure that only cruel acts will be able to exterminate all problems in the world. But from my point of view it is not right this fact scares me. 50% of young people find terrorism terrible. They do not respect people who kill innocent women and children. The teenagers have heard about an awful explosion in the USA in 2001 when two skyscrapers were bombed. These part of students feel really sorry for people and maintain that terrorism is not a solution of religious and political problems. 40% of teenagers hesitate and it also is not good. It is very easy to influence young people because of their psyche and nobody can exclude the fact that they won’t join terrorist groups.

Sometimes young people do not realize how the problem is important.

What is the history of terrorism?

Terrorist acts date back to at least the I st century, when the Zealots, a Jewish religious sect, fought against Roman occupation of what is now Israel. In the 12th in Iran, the Assassins, a group of Ismailis (Shiite Muslims), conducted.-terrorist acts against religious and political leaders of Sunni Islam. Through the 18th century, terrorists generally acted from religious zeal. Beginning in the 191h ‘century’ terrorist movements acquired a more political and revolutionary orientation. In the late 19th and early 20th  centuries, anarchists in Italy, Spain, and France used terrorism Prior to the outbreak of World War I in 1914 the Russian revolutionary movement also possessed a strong terrorist  element in its struggle against Russian royalty and aristocracy. In the latter half of the 20th   century acts of terror multiplied, driven by fierce nationalist and ideological motivations. The conflicts between Arab nations and Israel following the end of World War II in 1945 produced successive waves of terrorism in the Middle East. In the 1970s and   1980s organized terror spilled into Western Europe and other parts of the world.

Types of Terrorist Incidents

Bombings are not the only type of terrorism, but the most common one. Typically, improvised explosive devices are inexpensive and easy to make. They contain very destructive capabilities; for example, on August 7, 1998, two American embassies in Africa were bombed.

Kidnappings and Hostage-Takings are very popular now. Terrorists use kidnapping and hostage-talking to establish a bargaining position and to elicit publicity. Kidnapping is one of the most difficult acts for a terrorist group to accomplish, but, if a kidnapping is successful, it can gain terrorist money, release of jailed comrades, and publicity for an extended period. Hostage-taking involves the seizure of a facility or location and the taking of hostages.

Other types of terrorism are: Hijacking and Skyjacking

Hijacking is the seizure by force of a surface vehicle, its passengers, or its cargo.  Skyjacking is the talking of an aircraft, which creates a mobile, hostage barricade situation. In addition to the acts of violence discussed above, there are also numerous other types of violence that can exist under the framework of terrorism. Terrorist groups conduct maimings against their own people as a form of punishment for security violations, defections, or informing.

Goals and Motivations of terrorists

Ideology and motivation will influence the objectives of terrorists operations, especially regarding the casualty rate. Groups with non-religious goals discriminate acts of violence to achieve a specific political aim.

Terrorist groups commit acts of violence to-

-Produce widespread fear

-Obtain worldwide, national, or local recognition for their cause by attracting the attention of the media.

-Steal or extort money and equipment, especially weapons and ammunition vital to the operation of their group.

-Discourage foreign investments, tourism, or assistance programs that can affect the target country’s economy and support of the government in power.

-Influence government decisions, legislation, or other critical decisions.

-Destroy facilities or disrupt lines of communication in order to create doubt that the government can provide for and protect its citizens.

Famous acts of terrorists

We all remember   the 11 th of September in the USA when there were a series of four coordinated terrorist attacks launched by the Islamic terrorist group al-Qaeda upon the United States in New York city and the Washington D.C. metropolitan area on Tuesday, September 11, 2001. Four passenger airliners were hijacked by 19 al-Qaeda terrorists so they could be flown into buildings in suicide attacks. Two of those planes were crashed into the North and South towers of the World Trade Center. The Beslan school hostage crisis started the first of September 2004, lasted three days. The crises began when a group of armed Islamic separatist militants occupied School Number One in the town of Beslan. The event led to security and political repercussions in Russia;   most   notably it contributed to a series of federal government reforms consolidating power in the Kremlin.

Six people were killed and 37 injured-some of them critically- after a female suicide bomber set of a bomb on a bus in Volgograd, central Russia.

The problem needs to be solved

It is difficult to find any ways to solve this problem of terrorism because the problem lives in us. Everything that the government can do is to control that young people not to be involved   into terrorism. Of cause parents should take part in this mission. Teenagers’ psyche is very unstable and it is not difficult to manipulate   young generation. That’s why parents must pay attention to emotional changes of children, try to discuss their personal problems. Parents must be sure that a teenager has good relations with classmates .It is also important to avoid hate to other people or nations .In this situation teenager should see and feel love around him and to him. At schools students should be taught to understand and respect other religious 50% of terrorist acts are made because of misunderstanding of Karan. It is important to understand   that actual terrorist operations are the result of extensive   preparation and support operations.

Conclusion

Terrorism is a criminal act. Whether the terrorist chooses to identify himself with military terminology, or with   civilian imagery, he is a criminal in both spheres.

There are three perspective of terrorism: the terrorist’s, the victim’s, and the  general  public’s. The phrase   “one man’s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter” is a view terrorists themselves would accept. Terrorists do not see themselves as evil and it is the main problem. A victim of a terrorist act   sees the terrorist as a criminal with no regard for human life. If the terrorist claims that he is justified in using such violence as a military combatant, he is a de facto war criminal under international law and the military justice systems most nations.

In conclusion I would like to say that terrorism a real danger for our generation. It is impossible to destroythis   system of stealing money and killing people but we must try not to become a part of this system. Young people should choose   a humane way   protecting their beliefs   and principles.

                                          Thesis.

I have chosen a problem of terrorism because it is very actual today.

Terrorism is not new. It has been used since the beginning of recorded history. Terrorism has been described as both a tactic and strategy; a crime and holy duty.

Nowadays it is a danger of our generation. There are a lot of causes of terrorism: religion, politics and hate between nations.

I am interested in this problem because a lot of children and teenagers are involved in terrorist groups.

Beside I would like to solve the following task:

1To understand what is the main reason for terrorism;

2To analyze what kinds of terrorism are existed nowadays;

3To try to understand how people and government can avoid terrorism.

I have made a sociological research   among teenagers of 7-11 forms.

I need to consider such important aspects like:

1What do teenagers think about terrorism;

2What is the history of terrorism;

3Types of terrorism incidents;

4Goals and motivations of terrorism;

5Famous acts of terrorists and how to solve the problem.

Modern students know a lot of about terrorism, they watch TV and get information from the Internet. 50% of the interviewed students find terrorism terrible. They have heard about the terror in the USA in 2001 when two skyscrapers were bombed, Volgograd, in a school building in Beslan. There were a lot of victims and young people feel really sorry for people and maintain that terrorism is not a solution of religious and political problems. Terrorism is very dangerous because there are a lot of types of it. Bombings are not the only way of terrorism, kidnappings and hostage-takings are very popular now, also there are hijackings and skyjackings. Also, there are a lot of reasons for terrorism. 50% of students are sure that the reason for terrorism is money, 40% think that it is religion and 10% maintain that the reason is hate between nations.

In conclusion I would like to say terrorism is a criminal act in any way. It is impossible to destroy this system of stealing money and killing people but we must try not to become a part of this system. Young people should choose a humane way   protecting their beliefs and principles.

«The role of women in World War II».

Good afternoon! My name is Dmitriy Vasiliev.I am a student of the eighth form, school number sixteen.

This year we will celebrate 75 years of the victory in the second  world war.

World War II was a global military conflict. It was the most devastating war in human history.

And today I would like to talk about the role of women in this war. Thousands of women from the Soviet Union, Britain, France, Canada, Poland, Italy and other countries took place in it.

The reason I have chosen the theme of women in the second world war is that when we talk about the war and the heroes of this war in most cases we mean men-heroes but the role of women is equally important. The aim of my work is to compare the role of the  European and Soviet women in World War II, to know  and remember our history, our victory and our women.

Most women tended to serve mostly in administrative and medical roles. But some of them especially in the Soviet Union fought in larger numbers in front line roles. There were a lot of pilots among women for example Freydis Sharland . Freydis was 21 when she started flying. «It was the sort of interesting job men like to do and not let women in» she said.

The women of  the 588th (five hundred and  eighty eighth) Night Bomber Regiment of the Soviet Air Forces-better known as the Night Witches- had no machine guns, no radios, and no parachutes. All they had on board was a map, a compass ,rulers and pencils.

The soviet  Union became the very first country to allow women to fly combat missions. The Night Witches only flew in the dead of night. And they  always flew in groups of three. During the war, the Night Witches lost 32pilots.

Women-partisans played an important role in the victory over fascism. One of the most famous was Zoya Kosmodemyanskaya. She was so brave that when she looked death in the eyes she did not give away the names of her Comrades or her real name (Tanya) before her death .She said «There are two hundred million of us you can’t hang us all».

One new area of female activity in  this war was espionage and women worked as secret agents. One of them was Vera Atkins. Her job was to create « Cover-stories» for the spies. Of course we should not forget about women snipers, tank drivers and women who fought for the victory in the rear.

Our town has its own women- heroes  who took part  in the fighting and worked in the rear:M.P. Maligina ,E.M. Kraushkina, V.N.Motorina, A.I. Kozlova.

Elena Mezhevova  and her brigade worked in a plant , the girls had to burn the rags that  to warm the machines. Quite the girls Anna Kanochina and Olga Bazarova got behind the wheel of tractors.

After my research I can`t agree with the statement that women are weaker than men. Women fought alongside men during  World War II. 50 percent of our victory depended on them.

Our generation owes a lot to these women. I bow down to them and say a big thank you to them.

The result of my project is my  performance  in front of grades 5 and 8. I have shown the presentation and told about the exploits of women in the second world war .For me it is important that our generation remember history and be proud of our women. Thank you for your attention!!!
