13, October 2012  9th  and 10th graders of our school had an excursion dedicated to Pavel Mikhailovich Tretyakov and the history of the gallery he founded.

“Take Care of the Gallery …!” – were the last words of the dying Pavel Mikhailovich Tretyakov.

A third – generation Moscow merchant, tireless toiler and successful owner of a linen manufactory in Kostroma and a store on Ilyinka street, flaunting all class prejudice, he became a highly – educated man of his time and connoisseur of the arts.

The Gallery collection, put together by Tretyakov for over 40 years, embraces all the very best created by Russian Art of the 18th – 19th centuries.

He acquired hundreds of wonderful paintings, and every one of them carries an imprint of his soul, his yearnings, fleeting moments from his own life … Every canvas tells its own unique story.
