Я. Welcome, dear visitors! We’re glad to see you on our event called “Ushakov’s readings”. As you see, it’s devoted to the jubilee of the great person, one of the most famous and talented Russian admirals. Today we’re going to take a virtual trip to places which are connected to his biography. But who was he? What was he like? Let’s listen to the professor of History, Miss Daria Vorobyova!
Даша. Therefore, we can conclude that Ushakov was an excellent person. He studied well, and then became an admiral. He had been commanding Russian Black Sea Fleet for 44 years, never lost a single ship and never lost a single battle.
Ульяна. Let’s continue our journey. We have been to Yaroslavl and Saint Petersburg. Now we’re here in Voronezh region. Our land is rich in different kinds of woods. There are so many forests here - oaks, maples, birches, pine trees, linden trees. Welcome to Ikorets shipyard. It was built here because of all these forests. The shipbuilding demanded good wood.
Я. How it is connected to Ushakov?
Ульяна. He came here at the age of 23 and began to build prams.
Я. Excuse me, what pram is?
Ульяна. It is a special warship about 32 meters long and about 10 meters width. It had 44 cannons.
Я. Was it difficult to build them?
Ульяна. Yes, it was. First, the builders chose the straightest and the smoothest trunks, then cut them down and piled up. After that, the wood was portaged to the building site. Long and hard work, long and hard journey.
Я. Did Ushakov have his own pram?
Ульяна. Yes, he did. It was called “Troil”. You know, Ushakov wasn’t just a supervisor, he also took part in shipbuilding, together, with other common people! Now imagine the great day when the warships, which have been built on the Ikorets shipyard, had begun their great journey towards the glory. First along the Ikorets River to the Don, and then southwards along Don to the great Azov Sea and the Black sea!
Я. A great day, indeed! The great day, the great work, and the great person.
