Frank Baum “The Magic of Oz”

Little Dorothy lived in Kansas with uncle Henry and aunt Em. She had a good friend. It was her little dog Toto.

One day there was a terrible storm, which brought Dorothy and Toto to some strange country. Suddenly she saw a woman.

Scene I

The Good Witch of the North: You are welcome, beautiful Fairy to the land of Oz.

Dorothy: Oh, I am not a Fairy. I am a little girl. My name is Dorothy and this is my little dog Toto.

The Good Witch of the North: No, you are a fairy. Your house killed the Wicked Witch of the East.

Dorothy: Who are you? And where am I?

The Good Witch of the North: I am the Good Witch of the North and you are in the Land of Oz.

Dorothy: If you are a good witch, please help me and Toto to go back to my uncle and aunt to Kansas.

Toto: Yes, help us please. I want to come back to Kansas.

Dorothy: Toto, can you speak?

The Good Witch of the North: No wonder! He is in the Magic Land. Here all the animals can speak, but, dear Dorothy, I don’t know where Kansas is. I never heard about it. I can’t help you. I’m sorry.

Дороти обнимает Тото и они оба плачут.

The Good Witch of the North: Listen to me, Dorothy. Only Oz, the Great Wizard of the Land of Oz can help you. He lives in the Emerald City. You must find him.

Dorothy: How can we get there?

The Good Witch of the North: You have to walk. It is a long way. Take these shoes – the silver shoes of the Wicked Witch. There is some magic in them, but I don’t know it. Good-bye, my dear.

Dorothy and Toto: Good-bye, thank you!

Scene II

Dorothy: Come along, Tot. We shall go to the Emerald City.

Toto: Let’s go there. We shall ask the Great Oz to send us back home to Kansas. Dorothy, look! Who’s that?

Scarecrow: Good day!

Dorothy: Do you speak?

Scarecrow: Yes, I do. How do you do?

Dorothy: How do you do? I hope you are all right.

Scarecrow: No, I’m not very well. I don’t like to stay here night and day. Can you help  me to get down?

Dorothy and Toto: Certainly!

Дороти и Тото помогают Страшиле слезть вниз.

Scarecrow: Thank you very much. I’m free now. Who are you? And where are you going?

Dorothy: My name is Dorothy. This is my dear dog Toto. We are going to the Emerald City.

Toto: We want to ask the Great Wizard of Oz to send us back home to Kansas.

Scarecrow: I don’t know the Great Wizard of Oz. You see, I have no brains. I know nothing. I’m a fool.

Dorothy: Oh, don’t say so! You are nice! Let’s go with us! You will see the Great Wizard.

Scarecrow: And I shall ask him to give me some brains. I want to be clever. Dorothy, is your dog kind?

Toto: Don’t be afraid of me!

Scarecrow: I’m not afraid of you. I‘m afraid only of fire.

Dorothy: (берет за руки Страшилу и Тото) Now we are three and we are going to the Emerald City!

Scarecrow and Toto: And we are going to the Great Wizard of Oz!

Scene III

Появляется Железный Дровосек.

The Tin Woodman: How do you do? I am the Tin Woodman. I have heard your talk. I know you are Dorothy. This is your dog Toto and this is the Scarecrow. I saw him in the field and I live in the forest.

Dorothy: Why do you live in the forest?

The Tin Woodman: Because I am made of tin. I have no heart, I can’t be happy without it.

Dorothy: Let’s go to the Emerald City together.

The Tin Woodman: And I shall ask the Great Wizard to give me a heart.

The Scarecrow and Toto: and now we are four!

Все вместе: And we are going to the Great Wizard of Oz!

Раздается страшный рев. Выбегает Трусливый Лев. Он ударом лапы сбивает с ног Страшилу и Железного Дровосека, затем замахивается лапой на Тото. Дороти закрывает Тото, а потом ударяет Трусливого Льва.

Dorothy: Don’t take my Toto! How can you? You are do big and he is so small! Shame on you! You are a coward!

The Lion: Yes, I know it. I’m a coward, But what can I do? Everybody thinks that I’m brave. All people are afraid of my roar and I’m afraid of them. I want to have some courage.

Dorothy: Do you want to go with us to the Great Wizard of Oz? I think he can give you courage.

Все вместе: And now we are five! And we are going to the great Wizard of Oz!

Scene IV

Голос Волшебника Изумрудного Города (за ширмой): I’m the Great Wizard of Oz, the Great Wizard of Oz! (стук в дверь) Who’s there? Come in!

Входят Дороти, Тото, Страшила, Железный Дровосек и Лев.

Dorothy: I’m Dorothy and these are my friends: Toto, the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman, the Lion. We know you are the Great Wizard of Oz. You can do everything and we need your help.

Wizard: What do you want?

Dorothy: Please, send me back to Kansas to my aunt and uncle.

Toto: And me too.

Scarecrow: Please, put some brains into my head.

The Tin Woodman: Please, give me a heart.

The Lion: Please, give me some courage. I don’t want to be a coward.

И тут Лев очень громко стал рычать и опрокинул ширму. За ширмой все увидели волшебника.

Все вместе: Oh, who are you? Are you the Great Wizard of Oz? Terrible Oz?

Wizard: I’m very sorry. I’m not a Wizard. Oh, don’t be angry with me. Don’t kill me! I shall try to help you.

Scarecrow: Shall I become wiser?

Wizard: Oh, yes! Sit down in this chair, please. I shall have to put some brains into your head. (Волшебник делает вид, что втыкает булавки в его голову). Now you will be a great man. You have a lot of new brains in your head.

Scarecrow: Yes, I feel my brains are sharper. Thank you!

The Tin Woodman: Shall I have a heart at last?

Wizard: Sure! Look, what a pretty heart you will have. (Показывает ему сердечко и делает вид, что вставляет его ему в грудь).

The Tin Woodman: Is it a kind heart?

Wizard: Now you have the kindest heart in the world!

The Tin Woodman: I’m very happy. Thank you!

Lion: Shall I have courage?

Wizard: Sure Drink it. (Подает ему чашку).

Lion: (пьет) I’m full of courage. Thank you very much.

Toto: Will u send me and Dorothy to Kansas?

Wizard: My friends! I have one secret. I’m a usual man. Once I worked at the circus. I built a balloon. We will fly to Kansas together  with Dorothy and Toto. The Scarecrow will live in the Emerald City and take care of its people instead  of me. The Tin Woodman will live and work in the forest and there he will meet a beautiful girl. The Lion will protect all those who are weak. So, good-bye all! Be happy!

Все машут руками друг другу и зрителям)

Фрэнк Баум «Чудеса Страны Оз».

Маленькая Дороти жила в Канзасе со своим дядюшкой Генри и тетушкой Эм. У нее был хороший друг, песик по имени Тото.

Однажды случился ужасный шторм, который принес Дороти и Тото в волшебную страну, и тут она увидела женщину, которая оказалась Доброй Волшебницей.

Сцена I

Добрая волшебница приветствует Дороти и Тото в Чудесной Стране Оз. Она говорит, что домик Дороти убил злую волшебницу и называет Дороти прекрасной феей. Дороти и Тото просят помочь им вернуться в Канзас обратно домой, но Добрая волшебница к сожалению не знает, где он находится и не может им помочь. Дороти обнимает Тото и они оба плачут.

Затем Добрая волшебница рассказывает им про Мудрого Гудвина, который живет в Изумрудном городе, и что он может помочь им. Она дает волшебные серебряные туфельки Дороти, чтобы им легче было добраться. Они прощаются с Волшебницей и идут в Изумрудный город.

Сцена II

Дороти и Тото собираются попросить Мудрого Гудвина отправить их домой. По дороге они встречают Страшилу, который висит в поле. Дороти и Тото помогают Страшиле слезть вниз.

Страшила жалуется, что у него нет мозгов. Дороти предлагает ему идти вместе с ними, чтобы Мудрый Гудвин помог им всем. Страшила соглашается. Втроем они продолжают свой путь в Изумрудный город.

Сцена III

Появляется Железный Дровосек. Он говорит им, что знает их всех, видел Страшилу в поле, рассказывает, что живет в лесу, что он сделан из железа и у него нет сердца, поэтому он не может быть счастлив. Дороти предлагает ему присоединиться и пойти вместе с ними  к Мудрому Гудвину. Железный Дровосек соглашается и все четверо весело шагают по дороге к Изумрудному городу.

Раздается страшный рев. Выбегает Трусливый Лев. Он ударом лапы сбивает с ног Страшилу и Железного Дровосека, затем замахивается лапой на Тото. Дороти закрывает Тото, а потом ударяет Трусливого Льва. Она пристыжает его, говорит, что только трус может обижать слабых. Трусливый Лев соглашается, он делится, что мечтает о том, чтобы у него появилось мужество. Дороти предлагает ему присоединиться. Теперь пятеро друзей направляются в Изумрудный город к Мудрому Гудвину!

Сцена IV

Голос Волшебника Изумрудного Города (за ширмой): Я Великий и Мудрый Волшебник к Страны Оз! Он впускает пятерых друзей. Входят Дороти, Тото, Страшила, Железный Дровосек и Лев. Дороти представляет всех.

Они с Тото просят отправить их домой в Канзас, Страшила просит наградить его мозгами, Железный Дровосек сердцем, а Трусливый Лев мужеством.

И тут Лев очень громко стал рычать и опрокинул ширму. За ширмой все увидели волшебника. Мудрый Гудвин просит не убивать его, извиняется и помогает друзьям.. Он награждает Страшилу умом, Железному Дровосеку дарит доброе сердце и Трусливому льву дает волшебную жидкость с силой мужества и храбрости. Все желания исполняются: Страшила будет властвовать в Изумрудном городе, Железный Дровосек будет жить в лесу и встретит прекрасную девушку, а Трусливый Лев будет защищать и помогать слабым. Мудрый Гудвин, Дороти и Тото отправляются на воздушном шаре в Канзас.

Все машут руками друг другу и зрителям!!!
