Moscow region is situated in the western part of our country, in the centre of the West-European flatland. Over 7 million people live here. Its area is 45,900 square kilometers. It consists of 73 towns. It is an important political, cultural, economic, religious and financial centre.

Moscow region has a humid continental climate. Its winters are long and cold. Summers are usually mild and rather short. In summer months downpours often occur.

Moscow Region has a well-developed transportation infrastructure. Four airports, e leven main railway lines with connections to Moscow Region. Waterways include the Moscow-Volga Canal and the navigable Moscow and Oka rivers.

Regional country estates are true pearls of architecture: Abramtsevo , Boldino , Bykovo , Lenin Hills, Melikhovo , Ostafievo , Pavlovskaya Sloboda and others.

Moscow Region is famous for its monasteries. Most remarkable are Ascension New-Jerusalem Monastery, Pafnutiev-Borovsky Monastery, St. Sergius Holy Trinity Lavra and many others.

O ne of the most enchanting features of Moscow Region is its traditional arts. Among the world-famous crafts are Gzhel porcelain, Fedoskino lacquered boxes, Zhostovo trays.
