PEDAGOGY OF LIFE

You cannot teach a man anything;

you can only help him find it within himself.

Galileo Galilei

To be a teacher… What does it mean? I asked my students about it. Most of them consider the teacher as a person who helps them in studing school subjects. But I was happy to hear from some of them that the teacher is a person who can help in a difficult situation. In my opinion, to be a teacher means to give not only school lessons but the lessons of life, to be an older friend.

I’m a teacher of English. I open another culture, history, traditions, and mentality   to my students. They say, “You live a new life for every new language you speak.” That’s very true. The whole world, amazing and attractive, is opened before my students at the lesson. The Royal Family, British traditions and people… It’s just a small part of a huge world called English language.

At my teens I had a strong desire to see everything, I was told at the English lessons, with my own eyes. Living in a small provincial town, in a modest family, I realized that my dream might never come true. Still, step by step, I was going to my dream. I remember that feeling of extreme happiness when I finally breathed the air of London! I wish everyone could feel something like that at least once in the life.

That’s how English lessons at school influenced my decision to be a teacher of English. That was pedagogy of my life.

In conclusion, I’d like to stress that if students come to you to ask for advice, their eyes are bright and full of interest, my congratulations, you’re a real Teacher! You may be proud of the life you live.
