The Mariinsky Opera and Ballet House It is a historic theatre of opera and ballet in Saint Pe tersburg , Theatralnaya str. 1. Opened in 1860, it became the preeminent music theatre of late 19th century Russia, where many of the stage masterpieces of Tchaikovsky, Mussorgsky, and Rimsky-Korsakov received their premieres . The Imperial opera and ballet theatre in Saint Petersburg was established in 1783, at the behest of Catherine the Great.
Mussorgsky (Maly) opera and ballet theatre It is one of Russia n 's oldest opera and ballet houses. The theatre was established in 1833 by decree of Tsar Nicholas I. and is situated in a historical building on the Arts Square in St. Petersburg.It is named after Grand Duke Michael Pavlovich of Russia. Before the 1917 Revolution, the Mikhailovsky did not have its own resident company. Performances were given either by a French company, hired by the Russian Imperial Theatres or at the end of the century by the Mariinsky Theatre and Alexa ndrisky Theatre of the period performed at the theatre
The Alexandrinsky Drama Theatre The Alexandrinsky Theatre is the second most famous theatre in St. Petersburg, home of the oldest theatre company in Russia, and one of the finest works of the great neoclassical architectCarlo Rossi, at the centre of a remarkable ensemble of buildings created by him on and around Ploshchad Ostrovskogo that Petersburgers consider one of the architectural jewels of the city. The theatre's origins date back to 1756, when Empress Elizabeth issued a decree to found the Russian Theatre for the Presentation of Tragedies and Comedies, Russia's first professional theatre. However, it was over seven decades before the company took up residence in Rossi's superb building. The first theatre on the site was a wooden building adapted from a pavilion in the gardens of the Anichkov Palace by Vincenzo Brenna in 1801 for the Italian impresario Antonio Casassi. This was soon bought by the state, and renamed the Maly ("small") Theatre.
The Tovstonogov Drama Theatre The Tovstonogov Theatre was founded in 1918 as the Special Drama Company. Maria Andreeva, Maxim Gorky and Alexander Blok took direct part in its creation. The company was gathered by Nikolay Monakhov and based on the Tragedy Theatre managed by Yury Yuriev and the Drama Theatre managed by Alexander Lavrentiev. The Theatre was opened on 15 February 1919 in the Conservatory Opera Studio with a stage play Don Karlos by Friedrich Schiller. In September of 1920, the Theatre moved to 65 Fontanka Embankment, a house of the former Suvorin Theatre (The Small Theatre. The building was built in 1878 and restored in 1999. From 1932 to 1992 it was named after Maxim Gorky and since 1992 г. — after Georgy Tovstonogov). And it is still there.
The Puppet Theatre St. Petersburg’s puppet theatre- Russia's first professional puppet theater. It was organized in 1918 by a group of Petrograd artists led by Lubov Shaporina-Yakovleva and was called Petrograd State Puppet Theatre. His curtain rose for the first time April 12, 1919. Viewers saw Tale of Tsar Saltan .
