Menshikovsky palace is situated on University quay. It is an outstanding monument of architecture of Petrovsky baroque. Its uniqueness is in the fact that the palace is an extraordinary large apartment house for those times, and it up to now. The Menshikovsky palace was also an official building of the governor general Menshikov. Franchesko was the architect who designed the building in 1711. All architects and builders of Petersburg of those times participated in building of the palace for the Prince. Masons participated in palace construction, artists, peasants, soldiers, the former convicts etc. In 1720 when the works were approaching to the end, practically each architect brought something of his own into the shape of the Palace. Mazankovaja Revival church, a wooden Ambassadorial palace and two-storied chambers of Menshikov’s secretary – F.Soloveva haven’t survived to our days . In the second half of the XVIII-th century on the place where there was the church the arena for cadets’ training to riding was built.

Till our time Menshikovsky’s manor is going on to surprise us by its spacious apartments . After the construction of two-storied wings and the garden’s structures, the palace became the closed quadrangle. The central part of a facade was decorated by pilasters, a balustrade with wooden sculptures and elaborate pediments with the gilded prince crowns. Over a portico there is a wooden gallery, a balcony where the orchestra which welcomed the visitors with music, took place. The big smart lobby amazes visitors with the solemn and elegant shape. On the ground floor there are offices, accommodations and workshops. The smart second floor, was the place which the prince’s family occupied. Here there are big, ornated halls, smart rooms. When Menshikov had lost his influence the palace lost the owner.
