The area is 22608 sq.km. In the north and the northeast New Jersey borders on the State of New York, in the southwest New Jersey borders on the State of Delaware, in the west –on the State of Pennsylvania and in the east the state is washed by the Atlantic ocean. The territory of New Jersey can be divided into 5 regions. The northeast region is very close to New York so that its inhabitants even go to «the City of the Big Apple» for work.

The first people to live on the land now known as New Jersey were the Delaware Indians. The first European to explore New Jersey was Giovanni de Verrazano . The colonial history of New Jersey started after Henry Hudson sailed through Newark Bay in 1609. In 1664 the British took control of the land. In 1787, New Jersey became the third state to ratify the U.S.
