In the North-West it borders territorial waters of Cuba, on the East by the territorial waters of Haiti, in the South with the territorial waters of Colombia. The name comes from the Indian word « Xaymaca » , which literally means «island of springs» or «land of springs ».The former British colony known not only for its diverse culture, but also social and economic problems. on August 6, 1969, Jamaica declared independence from great Britain in the framework of the Commonwealth of Nations. The capital and largest city of the country is Kingston.
