London Zoo.

Animals play an important role in our life. That is why I’ll speak about them and about London Zoo today.

London zoo is the world’s oldest scientific zoo. It was opened in London on April 27, 1828, and was originally intended to be used as a collection for scientific study. It was eventually opened to the public in 1847. Today it houses a collection of 755 species of animals. It is one of the largest collections in the United Kingdom.

Look at this table! There are so many different species of animals in London Zoo. Their number makes an impression, doesn’t it?

Many children with their parents and friends visit London Zoo every day. The Zoo is in Regent’s Park which is not far from the centre of London. Many old trees grow in the park, and in spring, summer and autumn there are a lot of beautiful flowers there too.
The Zoo is open every day from 9 o'clock in the morning to 7 o'clock in the evening. People who want to go there can go by bus or by the underground and bus. A lot of buses go to the different   sides of the park. Many kinds of animals live there: elephants, giraffes, sea-lions and polar bears, brown bears and foxes, and big and
little monkeys. There are many different kinds of birds there too. Some of them have very beautiful bright colors.

Butterfly Paradise It is so beautiful! This exhibit launched in May 2006, holds butterfly and moth species from several major regions, including Africa, Southeast Asia, and Central and South America. Species on display include clipper butterfly, great eggfly butterfly, zebra longwing and postman butterfly.

A good time to visit the animals is when they take their food. Then you can see how the sea-lions catch their fish. The man who looks after the animals sometimes throws a fish into the water, then the sea-lions jump into the water and get the fish there. It is also interesting to watch how the big birds eat their meat, and how the monkeys eat fruit.
In the large monkey house you can see different kinds of monkeys. They jump, run and play with each other. They are always full of fun. In the park there are camels. Children love to sit on a camel's back. Then it walks in the square and they sit high up on its back. They also like to watch the elephant when he washes himself in the morning. He puts water on his back and men with long brushes make him very clean.
In the Children's Zoo children can watch and talk to and touch young animals. Of course the people who look after the young animals watch the children too.
If people want to see the fishes they must go to another house and pay a second time. The fishes are in a great glass boxes. There are many different kinds of beautiful fishes there. The exhibit is separated into three halls, each home is for different types of fish. The first hall contains species such as
rudd, European eels, pink sea fans, spiny starfish and seahorses. The second hall is a coral reef habitat with tropical species from across the globe, including copperband butterflyfish and clownfish. The third hall contains Amozon fish including electric eels, glass knifefish, lungfish stingray.

It is very interesting, isn’t it?

Many songs, poems, tales are written about animals. I would like to recite the poem, which is called “My dream” by Gillian Brown.

I love all kind of animals

Dogs and cats and rabbits.

I love all kind of animals,

Despite their little habits.

If I had tons of money,

Do you know what I would do?

I would buy lots of animals

And have my own zoo.

But they wouldn’t be in cages,

They would be free to run around.

And there’s one thing they could feel

And that is safe and sound.

And my dream is to go to London and to visit London Zoo.
