Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci . meaning "Leonardo, son of ( Mes )ser Piero from Vinci." Leonardo was born on April 15, 1452, "at the third hour of the night in the Tuscan hill town of Vinci, in Florence. He was an Italian Renaissance polymath: painter, sculptor, architect, musician, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, geologist, cartographer, botanist, and writer.

The Last Supper The Last Supper was made using experimental pigments directly on the dry plaster wall and unlike frescos, where the pigments are mixed with the wet plaster, it has not stood the test of time well. Over the years it has crumbled, been vandalized bombed and restored. Today we are probably looking at very little of the original.

Leonardo died at Clos Lucé , on May 2, 1519 . Leonardo da Vinci was buried in the Chapel of Saint-Hubert in Château d'Amboise, in France. Now we can see his paintings in the Louvre, the Hermitage and the Ambrosiana Library .
