HYDE PARK covers an area of 360 acres. On the north of Hyde Park there is a very famous place called ‘Speaker’s Corner’ where, only on Sundays, any person can talk on any subject.

It is a very large Gothic church. All English kings and queens since William I have been crowned in the Abbey and many famous people are buried there (Charles Darwin, Charles Dickens and so on).
It is the official home of the British royal family, containing almost 600 rooms.
It is a former royal palace in London on the site of which the present Houses of Parliament stand.
The Houses of Parliament is a very large building which stands near the Thames. There are two tall towers at the corners of the building and one of them is the Clock Tower. It is 320 feet high and is famous for its immense hour bell. The English people built the tower and the clock in 1858. The clock has four faces and five big bells. The biggest bell is known as Big Ben. The bell weighs 13 tons.
It was built in the 11th century. In the past the Tower of London served both as a palace and as a state prison, but it’s a museum today, housing the National Collection of Armour and the Crown Jewels and royal Regalia. The Tower is still guarded by the Yeomen Warders, the famous Beefeaters, who wear a traditional sixteenth-century uniform.
Tower Bridge was opened in 1894. The hydraulic mechanism can raise and lower the bridge in about one and a half minutes. The covered walkway between the two towers is open to the public and offers a spectacular view of London.
It commemorates Nelson’s victory at the battle of Trafalgar in 1805 in which he was fatally wounded. Trafalgar Square was designed between 1829 and 1840. The column is over 170 feet high while the statue of Nelson itself is 17 feet high. Bronze bas-reliefs at the foot of the column, made from the metal of captured French cannon, represent Nelson’s four great naval victories. The four bronze lions at the base were added in 1867.
St. Paul’s Cathedral is the greatest work of England’s greatest architect, Christopher Wren. It was opened in 1697 but was finished only in 1710. There are memorials to many famous men of England in the Cathedral: the tombs of Wellington, victor of Waterloo, and Nelson, hero of Trafalgar.
