Mercury Mercury is the closest planet to the Sun and the smallest planet in the Solar System (0.055 Earth masses). Mercury has no natural satellites, and its only known geological features besides impact craters are lobed ridges, probably produced by a period of contraction early in its history. Mercury's almost negligible atmosphere consists of atoms blasted off its surface by the solar wind. Its relatively large iron core and thin mantle have not yet been adequately explained. Hypotheses include that its outer layers were stripped off by a giant impact; that it was prevented from fully accreting by the young Sun's energy.

Слайд 6

Venus Venus is close in size to Earth (0.815 Earth masses) has a thick silicate mantle around an iron core, a substantial atmosphere, and evidence of internal geological activity. However, it is much drier than Earth, and its atmosphere is ninety times as dense. Venus has no natural satellites. It is the hottest planet, with surface temperatures over 400°С (752°F), most likely due to the amount of in the atmosphere. No definitive evidence of current geological activity has been detected on Venus, but it has no magnetic field that would prevent depletion of its substantial atmosphere, which suggests that its atmosphere is frequently replenished by volcanic eruptions.

The Earth The Earth is the fifth largest of the nine main planets in the Solar System. It’s the third planet from the Sun. The Sun is just one of many stars in the Milky Way Galaxy. The Earth looks blue from space because 70%, nearly three quarters, is covered with water. There are four oceans on the Earth: the Pacific, the Atlantic, the Indian and the Arctic. The oceans contain 97%of all the water on the Earth.

Слайд 9

Passport Name: The Earth Other names: the World, the Blue Planet A d dress: the Solar Sistem, the Milky Way, the Galaxy, the universe Weight: 597 thousand million, million, million tons ( it’s 81 times as heavy as the Moon) Age:4,600 million years

Слайд 10

Colour: blue, brown, greeen, often white with clouds Closest neighbours: the Moon Occupation: making happy people, animals and plants Hobbies: space travel

Слайд 12

Do you know what the distance is from pole to pole? It’s 20,000 kilometres. They say it would take twelve and a half million people holding hands to stretch from pole to pole.

Слайд 13

Mars Mars is smaller than Earth and Venus (0.107 Earth masses). It possesses an atmosphere of mostly with a surface pressure of 6.1 millibars (roughly 0.6% of that of the Earth). Shows geological activity that may have persisted until as recently as 2 million years ago. Its red colour comes from (rust) in its soil. Mars has two tiny natural satellites ( and ) thought to be captured .

Jupiter

Слайд 16

Name: Jupiter Other names:gas giant Address:the Solar Sistem, the Milky Way, the Galaxy, located between Mars and Saturn Colour: White Closest neighbours: 67 satellite: Io, Europe, Ganymede Occupation: look after other planets Hobbies: space travel Distinguishing marks: The langest planet in the Solar System

Uranus Uranus at 14 Earth masses, is the lightest of the outer planets. Uniquely among the planets, it orbits the Sun on its side. It has a much colder core than the other gas giants and radiates very little heat into space. Uranus has 27 known satellite , the largest ones being Titania, Oberon.

Слайд 22

Uranus

Слайд 23

Neptune Neptune though slightly smaller than Uranus, is more massive (equivalent to 17 Earths) and therefore more . It radiates more internal heat, but not as much as Jupiter or Saturn. Neptune has 14 known satellite. The largest, Triton is geologically active, with gervers of liquid nitrogen. Neptune is accompanied in its orbit by a number of minor planet, termed, that are in 1:1 with it.

Слайд 25

Galaxies The star group to which our system belongs is called the Milky Way or just the Galaxy. There are about 100,000,000,000 stars in the Galaxy , or about 20 stars for each human being on planet Earth. The Galaxy is like a huge disc with a bulge the middle. The Galaxy is about 100,000 light years in diameter.

First man in space It happened in November 1957. The first animal in space was Laika, a dog from Russia. Laika travelled around the Earth for 7 days in the satellite Sputnik 2. Then in 1961, all people on the Earth learned about the first man in space, Yuri Gagarin. He circled the Earth in Vostok spaceship. Since that time the 12th of April has been celebrated in Russia as Space Day.

Слайд 27

In more than 50 years since Yuri Gagarin’s flight Russian space science has come a long way. Over 2,000 spaceships have been launched since the space era began.

The Yungay Earthquake May 31 st 1970. The letter started to dance in front of my eyes. There was a noise, like a big lorry in the street. It was coming from the ground. The cars started to jump up and down. The houses started to fall down. The ground was moving under my feet. All buildings were on the ground.

Слайд 29

The Еarth was moving up and down like a sea. Another sound, like great guns. It came from the mountains. Mountain began to fly at me! A great wind carried me along. Then earth and snow fell on top of me… “50,000 died and another 100,000 people were hurt. Nearly a million lost their homes.” “There was an earthquake in China in 1556. It killed 830,000 people. In 1923, in Japan, 142,000 people died.

Слайд 30

Answer the questions. Why do people call the Earth « the Blue Planet »? Where is the most of Earth’s water found? Is the Sun a planet? What is it? How many main planets are there in the Solar System? What are the names of the oceans? How much water do the oceans contain?

Слайд 31

Russia leads in many areas of space reseacher . The most important achievement include work on orbital stations. The longest expedition lasted more than 430 days. More than seventy Russian spacemen have worked in orbit, many of them more than once.
