General information of Tuva
The Republic of Tuva is sitauted in the south-east of Siberia, right in the center of Asia. The Republic of Tuva is the youngest republic in the Russian Federation. It joined Russia in 1944. The capital of the Republic of Tuva is Kyzyl. There are 17 administrative regions, 1 city and 4 major towns in Tuva.

In the west Tuva borders on the Republic of Altai, in the northwest and in the west Tuva borders on the Krasnoyarsk territory and the Khakas Republic, in the northeast Tuva borders on the Irkutsk territory and the Buryat Republic, and in the south and south-east it borders on Mongolia.

Our capital Kyzyl
Kyzyl is the administrative, economic and cultural center of the republic of Tuva with a population of more than 100 thousand. Kyzyl is situated in the center of the Asian continent, at the confuense of the Bii-Khem and Kaa-Khem rivers.
There are about 12 thousand big and small rivers in Tuva. Almost all the rivers belong to the Ulug-Khem river basin. The Ulug-Khem (Yenisei) is two rivers flowing together: Bii-Khem and the Kaa-Khem.
Winter is long and severe with little snow and dry, sunny weather. Calm spells areinterrupted by severe frosts. In winter the temperature can reach minus 50 degress Celsius. Summer is mainly warm and dry with little rain with the highest temperature above 40 degress Celsius.
The Republic is known for its natural resources. The mineral raw resources include polymetals, copper, coal, rare metals such as tantalum, niobiom and lithium.
Traditional culture
Traditional culture of the Tuvan people, which are the basic population of the Republic, it is the culture of the nomads. Thanks to its relatively isolated position of the lack of railway mountains surrounding territory from all sides - in Tuva still have self-contained nomad economy. The traditional economy of the Tuvans is rearing of sheep, horses, Todzhinskom area are saved reindeer herding and hunting as the main occupation of the population.

A Buddhist monastery in Kyzyl

On the hillside of Dogee Tibetan monks of Gyudmed wrote the biggest in the world the mantra «OM MANI PADME HUM».

Naadym is a colourful festival of cattle-breeders is held inmid- August. Includes the national wrestling «huresh», horse racing, archery, contests on the best national Yurt, the best national costume and horse equipment.

Shagaa is the Tuvan New Year. It is the most favourite holidays of the Tuvan people. It is selebrated in honour of the winter`s safe, as an original welcome of the spring. Shagaa is celebrated according to the tratitionally established customs and rituals: san salyry, joint praying, different national games.
