Trafalgar Square is the central square of the city. It is the natural center of London and the best starting point for a tour of the capital.

The Square was named so in memory of the admiral Nelson’s victory at the battle of Trafalgar in 1805. There is the monument in the center, known as Nelson’s Column. The figure of the great admiral is on top. The statue of Nelson is 16 feet hight . There are the lions at the foot of the column and the large platform which is used by the orators.

Th e square is the place for all sorts of meetings and demonstrations. When the square is not used for demonstrations , it is full of tourists, visitors feeding the pigeons or people watching the traffic.

Every year there is a very big Christmas tree in the centre of London in Trafalgar Square . This is a present from the people of Norway to the people of Great Britain . They send it to Londoners every year.
