Religious stupas

Among  the most interesting places are suburgany, or religious Buddhist stupas which are built in the places where  Buddhism is widespread.

There is a great amount of them on the territory of Buryatia.

Stupa from Sanskrit means “top”. In the Kalmyk language it is suburgan.

These religious stupas are built for the wholesome energy accumulation, which is supposed to protect living beings. The building of suburgan is considered to be a good intention, because stupas represented the receptacle of Buddha in the past, at present times and in the future. All earthly and nonearthly creatures worship suburgany.

Suburgany are erected according to the strict Buddhist cannons, but to attach the originality of the place where they are built is the task of builders. The building of these constructions has come from India. In early Buddhism suburgany were used as the depository of sacred objects, for example, Buddha relics. In the latest Buddhism ,  in Buryatia particularly, stupas played the role of the memorial as in honor of significant events and to famous respected lamas.

Architectural peculiarities of suburgany in every country are determined by local traditions. In the foundation of stupas there were put same certain things: Tibetan prayers – mantras, consecrated white food, religious things of the teacher, the holy pot – bumbe. The stupa has a pentamerous structure – the spatial model of the Universe – the earth, water, fire, air and the sky.

According to the local traditions, you can see at the top of suburgan a triad symbol

“soyombo”: the sun, moon, and flame tip which symbolize the past and future continuity, eternity and space communication

Outstanding suburgans of Buryatia

You can see an unusually beautiful suburgans in Buryatia  that are not like traditional ones. In Buryatia they are concentrated in Kihinga region.

The suburgan in the place of worship to the the Barkhan mountain master is called Baraghanskoye oboo. It is 10 km from the village of Barkhan (Kurumkan region).

White stupa of  Vadzhrasatvy  (the stupa of B. D. Dandaron) is 6 km to the west from the village of Ust – Orot  (Kizhinga refion).

Dzharun  Khashor suburgan or stupa, which makes your dreams  come true. It is  situated 1 km from Kizhinga and is well seen from the road. The stupa is the analogue of stupa Bodkhnatkh in the outskirts of Katmandu in Nepal, but it is less size.

                                Suburgan  Badma  - Seseg

Suburgan “ Badma  - Seseg”  is from Ulan – Ude  in the outskirts of  Nurseleniye settlement.

Suburgan "Badma-Seseg" fenced garden from the south set the main gate.

The 9-meter walled stupa cedar pole with prayers in Tibetan language and Tibetan books, woodcuts. Stupa adorns traditional symbol of eternity - Soyombo.

"Badma-Seseg" - it means mortar being of children. It was built and opened November 4, 1998 on the site of a pre-existing stupa, which was here before the Revolution of 1917; the construction place sanctified the Dalai Lama XIV-Lodoe Venerable Yeshi Rinpoche.

Buddhists come here to ask prosperity and wellbeing for their children.

“Badma – Seseg” is the name of our street where I live.  And I proud of it.
