Edinburgh is the capital city of Scotland, the second largest city in Scotland and the seventh-most populous in the United Kingdom.
According to  the results of  the 2001 census, the population of  Scotland  is  5,062,011people.  According to figures for 2007, it rose to 5,144,200 people.  If Scotland was an independent state, it would rank 113 most populous in the world.
The Scottish education system has always remained the distinct of education in the rest of the United Kingdom, with a characteristic emphasis on a higher education.
