KHAKASIA The republic of Khakasia Is situated in Siberia. The population is more than 541000 people. It was formed on the 20 th of October in 1930.

Abakan is the capital of the republic. The city of Abakan got its name from the name of the river. It is the political, administrative, cultural and transport centre of the republic.

Khakasia is a beautiful place. There are many rivers, lakes and mountains. You can see taiga and the steppes.

Animal life in the taiga is very interesting. It doesn't stop even in winter. You can see squirrels, white hares , sables, bears, foxes, wolves and different birds.

We can take part in Khakas holidays. Tun Pairam is the most popular holiday. Khakasia is rich in many old traditions. Khakas people have ancient religion.

There are two drama theatres in Khakasia: The Russian Drama theatre and the Khakas Drama theatre. There is also a One Man Show "Chitigen". The story of fame of the puppet theatre "Skazka" began in 1979.

Khakasia is famous for its sport achievements. Our sportsmen take part in different competitions. They became World champions. They have Olympic medals.
