Heroes of  Russia from Transbaikalia

Hero of the Russian Federation is the highest honorary title of the Russian Federation. A person that has been bestowed this title also receives a Gold Star medal, an insignia of honor that identifies recipients.

The title is awarded to persons for "service to the Russian state and nation, usually connected with a heroic feat of valor". The title is bestowed by decree of the president of the Russian Federation. Russian citizenship or being in the service of the Russian state is not obligatory.

2012 in Transbaikalia is declared the Year of heroes of the Fatherland that coincided with the decision of the Russian President on carrying out Year of history of Russia. The highest state award is appropriated for courage and heroism to the soldiers battling in "hot spots", outstanding achievements at development of a space, the new aircraft equipment, special merits before the state and the people. According to the latest data, this title is given to 991 person, 9 of them – our countrymen.

Roman Petrovich Taskaev

Roman Petrovich Taskaev was the first from the natives of Transbaikal region who was awarded the title Hero of Russia. He was born in 1954 in a small town Hilok, Chita region. After graduating from the hometown school Taskaev was called up to military service in 1971.  He served in the Odessa Military District.

R.P. Taskaev set a world aviation record of height of flight by plane MiG-29 in 1995. He catapulted twice from the emergency plane in desperate situations.He received the medal “Gold Star”  for the courage and heroism shown at the test of the new aircraft equipment. He received this award in August 16, 1992. Now, the 56 year old honored first pilot of the Russian Federation lives in Zhukovsky and works in experimental design bureau of A.S.Yakovlev.

Sergey Ivanovich Lysyuk

He was born in 1954 in Borzya. S.I.Lysyuk  was the commander of legendary group of a special purpose of Ministry of Internal Affairs “Vityaz”. He participated in October events in 1993 in Moscow. Also he took part in the suppression of riots and maintenance of the  public order in Sumgait, Fergana, Yerevan, Baku and other “hot spots”.  He is the president of Association of social protection of divisions of a special purpose “ A Brotherhood of the maroon berets”. He was awarded the Title of Hero of the Russian Federation on October 7, 1993 by Presidential Decree citing "for courage and heroism”.

Igor Valeryevich Moldovanov

The Sergeant Major I.V.Moldovanov  was born in Neryungry in 1975. After graduating from secondary  school at the station Novaya Chara  he was called up to military service . He first trained in the army in the training center in Chita and later surved in the Ural  Military District. He was sent to Chechnya in 1995. On March 13, 1995 Moldovanov destroyed  a grenade calculation at capture of the strengthened point  in Chechnya. He received the order to cover evacuation of badly wounded soldiers and took place in the IFV (infanty fighting vehicle).  After that he turned fighters’ attention  on himself. The IFV was exploded and lit up. Despite wounds and burns our countryman continued to fire from the flaming car. At the cost of his life he saved the lives of many soldiers. On October 19, 1995 Russian President Boris Yeltsin signed a decree was posthumously awarded the title Hero of the Russian Federation.

Andrey Vladimirovich Dneprovsky

The naval scout of marines Andrey Vladimirovich Dneprovsky was born in the officer’s family in Vladikavkaz in 1971. Later they moved to Transbaikalia. He graduated  from secondary  school at the village Tsagan-Chelutay of the Mogoytuy region.He  was called up to military service in 1989 and transferred to the military unit of the Pacific Fleet.  Since January 1995 the ensign Dneprovsky served in Chechnya. He captured 10 fighters, including 2 field commanders. Vladimir Dneprovsky was lost on March 21, 1995 at captureof fighting protection of Dudaev’s supporters on approaches to the dominating height.  The medal “Gold Star” by which he was posthumously awarded was transferred to his mother on Deember 1, 1995 by the admiral V.Kuroedov.

Badma Zhapovich Zhabon

Badma Zhapovich Zhabon was born in the village Alkhanay. When he was 20 years old he was called in the Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army.He was the commander of guerrilla group “Spartak”.In the first day of the Great Patriotic War the foreman Zhabon engaged in the territory of Belarus. He personally derailed 8 echelons with manpower and equipment of the enemy. Badma Zhabon blew up and destroyed 13 cars with various military freights. He participated and directed more than 300 combat operations. In 1943, after connection with the coming parts of Red Army, Zhabon and his soldiers were at war in Baltic and in East Prussia. For the courage and heroism displayed in the fight against the German-fascist aggressors in the Great Patriotic  War of 1941-1945 the title of Hero of the Russian Federation was given to Badma Zhapovich Zhabon. However he didn’t happen to receive this highest award. On December,26, in some months after the President Decree, B.Zh. Zhabon died.

Victor Ivanovich Tyurikov

Guards Lieutenant colonel of aircraft V.I. Tyurikov was born in 1954 on Etyk’s mine of the Baleysky region.He served in the air helicopter units of the Volga Military District. He was the deputy commander of a regiment  in the Transbaikal Military District. Viktor Tyurikov took part in fightsof the first and the second wars in Chechnya. On August 7, 2003 Tyurikov’s helicopter sustained damage to air from fire of a machine gun and lit up. He put a burning helicopter in line with the mountain river. He ordered to a landing and crew to leave the helicopter.This helicopter received some more hits from the grenade launcher and exploded, but Tyurikov hadn’t time to leave it. He was lost.

He was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the Russian Federation on September 25, 2004 for courage and heroism in the performance of military duties in the North Caucasus.

Babu Dorzho Mykhaylov

Babu Dorzho Mykhaylov was born in 1953 in the village Borzhigantay of the Mogoytuy region. Later the  Mykhaylov’s family moved to Shilka.

He became known to all country after he saved a collective property and 300 sheeps from the fire. When the steppe fire began, Babu Dorzho overtook  a flock of sheep for  a fallow strip of land. Later he plowed some more strips because a strong fire could be spread to the flock.Thus Mykhaylov saved from the fire 300 sheeps, agricultural machinery, fuels and lubricants. Also he was the winner of an award of Lenin Komsomol of Transbaikalia and he was the three times champion among sheep-breeders.

On October 3, 2007 our countryman was awarded a special sign of dinstinction the medal “Gold Star” for services to the state and the people.

Anton Aleksandrovich Marchenko

Anton Aleksandrovich Marchenko was born in  Chernyshevsk of Chita region.He  became one of the first victims of the Georgian-Russian conflict.  When he was 9 years old, his family moved to Orenburg. Since July, 2008 Marchenko served on the contract as a part of peacekeeping forces in South Ossetia. On the night of August 8 the Georgian troops undertook attack on a battalion on the suburb of Tskhinvali. In a course of action the native of Transbaikalia removed the burning IFV from a position of the Russian military and saved his companions. But he didn't manage to get out of the car. On October 1, 2008 Russian President Dmitry Medvedev signed a decree was posthumously awarded the title Hero of the Russian Federation to Anton Marchenko for heroism, courage and dedication shown during the performance of military duty.

Aldar  Batorovich Tsydenzhapov

Aldar Tsydenzhapov was born August 4, 1991 in Aginskoye, Agin-Buryat Autonomous Okrug. After graduating from the hometown middle school № 1 in 2009, Tsydenzhapov was called up to military service in November and transferred to the military unit № 40074 of the Pacific Fleet, stationed in Fokino, Primorsky Krai

Не was a conscript seaman of the destroyer “Bystry” of the Russian Pacific Fleet who was the only fatal victim of a fire that broke out on the destroyer on 28 September 2010. At the cost of his life Aldar saved the lives of 348 sailors who were on the sheep. Aldar immediately understood the danger and he stepped into the fire to save the crew and the ship. He had been in the epicenter of the fire for only nine seconds but he managed to finish work to the end. He made a heroic deed and died like a Hero.

He was awarded posthumously the Gold Star of the Hero of the Russian Federation for his role in extinguishing the fire.

His name is immortalized, memorial expositions are opened in Aginsk school№1, in Aginskoye , in Chita, Vladivostok. At the cost of his own life he proved that there is a place in our life to the heroic deed. Every day at the ship «Bystry » during the roll call his name will always be called the first.
