Free education in Russia is provided by state schools and there are some public schools where parents have to pay for education. Basic education is compulsory and is between ages 6-15. It includes 4 years of primary school and 5 years of basic school. Then pupils take compulsory exams in 4 subjects. After that they may study at comprehensive schools or get professional education.
