Introduction

I live in a town, called Maloyaroslavets. My town is famous for its historical events. It is a wonderful town I live. Until now pollution was not such a serious problem. People lived in uncrowded rural areas and didn’t have pollution. But now the situation has changed.

What can we do to save our town?

Tasks:

II Air Pollution

Any pollution is very dangerous for people animals, birds and the environment. And one of the most serious problems is air pollution. Our town doesn’t have many factories. However, it is enough to pollute fresh and clean air. Moreover, fumes of cars are killing us and our town. The fumes destroy the ozone layer that protect our Earth.

III Litter Everywhere

Nowadays you can see much litter in the streets of our town. And this litter was left by people.  There is trash everywhere: in streets, on sidewalks, and other places where it should not be. People throw away cigarettes, junk food, crisp packets, fruit peels not in the bins, but in the streets. If you go to the river Luzha, you will see a lot of litter around you. Why do people litter?

• Because they don’t consider this to be a serious offence
• They don't know what happens and they have no idea that how much damage could cause if you litter. 
• They don’t care about the cleanliness of the streets and the environment.
• They don’t know why they shouldn't throw litter on the streets.

IV Survey

We did a survey among our classmates to know

1. Does pollution worry you?

Yes     No

2. Can you spare some money to help the river Luzha?

Yes     No

3. Do you try to drop less rubbish?

Yes     No

The survey shows:

V Conclusion

We suggest to do the following:

1. Government should improve public transport

Result: less traffic, less pollution

2. Fine people who litter

Result: the will stop doing it

3. Get the young involved in clean-up programmes

Result: our parks and squares will be tidy

4. Use bikes instead of cars

Result: safety in the streets and clear air
