The aim of the project is: - to develop and expand the vocabulary in English; - to deepen knowledge of the Yakut national traditions. Targets: - learn words according to the project topic; - study the features of the Yakut national cuisine; - practice application of the project.

Since times, Sakha people were hunters, fishers and cattle-breeders.

Life in North is impossible without meat and milk. There are many different national dishes. They are “kumys”, “stroganina”, “oyogos”, “salamat”, “yakut flatbread”, etcetera. Methods of cooking in Yakut cuisine are few: it is either boiling (meat, fish), or fermentation (kumys, suorat), or freezing (meat, fish).

My Mummy showed me how to cook Yakut flatbread. It is a simple bread with little modern ingredients.

I take warm water and put there a little of salt and soda. I also add four teaspoons of vegetable oil. Then I stir it. Adding flour, I make dough. Then the dough we cut for pieces. I form a flatbread and put it in an oven until ready. Finally, our family eat my bread. Now I can cook Yakut flatbread myself.

My grandma, Galina Kuzminichna, makes very delicious“kyorchakh”. It is like ice cream, but much tasty.

My grandma uses national dishware. For making “kyorchakh”, she uses a wooden “ytyk” (whorl).

Perhaps, that is why “kyorchakh” is so foamy. She also adds berries. Then it freezes in a fridge. It’s served for dessert. And It’s really yummy.

Summary: I learned that the Yakut national cuisine is very delicious and healthy; I learned new words in English; I learned how to speak words in English; I learned how to cook Yakut flatbread on my own.
