St Patrick's day Saint Patrick's Day is a celebration of Irish culture on March 17. March 17 is a death date of Saint Patrick, who is Ireland’s patron Christian saint. This day celebrates arrival of Christianity in Ireland, and Irish culture in general.Слайд 2
Saint Patrick was born in Britain in the 4th century. When he was 16, Irish raiders took him as a slave to Ireland. Then he ran away and returned to his family, and became a priest. Patrick came back to Ireland, to convert the Irish to Christianity. He converted many people, and fought against druids. Druids were the priests of Celtic religion, and they also were political leaders, doctors, and scientists. Later, a legend appeared that St Patrick drove snakes out of Ireland. In fact, Ireland never had any snakes, and snakes in the legend are a name for the Celtic druids. St Patrick died on March 17 and was buried in Ireland. Later, his death day became a feast day in the Catholic Church.

It is time when children can eat loads of sweets and adults can enjoy a “pint” of beer at a local pub. Many restaurants and pubs offer traditional Irish food. Many immigrants from Ireland left for other parts of the world, in the 19th and 20th centuries. Now, St Patrick’s Day is celebrated not only in Ireland. In fact, it is celebrated in more countries of the world than any other traditional holiday, especially by Irish communities and organizations. It is very popular and merry.
