Introduction

Today I am going to talk about one of my personally favorite countries, China. The thing I like the most about China is the atmosphere and the people. For those who get to know them, China’s people become the best part of this wonderful, ancient country.

China being one of the earliest and ancient civilizations, its culture is extremely diverse and has a profound effect in the philosophy, etiquette and traditions of Asia to date, and it has a large impact on the world in general.

Architecture

Chinese architecture is as old as China itself.

Chinese architecture demonstrates an architectural style that developed over a millennium in China before spreading out to influence architecture all throughout Asia such as Korea, Vietnam and Japan.

Unlike Egypt and Greece, China found the basis of architecture in wood rather than stone. China is full of natural wood resources and it is easier to work with it.

The Chinese would make beautiful ornaments such as golden ornaments, painted ornaments (paintings or murals) and wood carved ornaments.

Philosophy

Philosophy as the study of general and fundamental problems concerning matters such as existence, knowledge, values, mind and language is very important in China.

Chinese philosophy originates in the spring and autumn period, that is a part of Chinese history.

Language

Chinese is a group of related language varieties.

There are more than 25 thousand characters and 5 tones.

Chinese is spoken by the Han majority and many minority ethnic groups in China.

About 1.2 billion people speak Chinese or some form of it (that’s 16% of the world’s population).

Traditional holidays

The traditional holidays are an essential part of harvest or prayer offerings. The most important holiday however is the Chinese New Year which this year happens on 5th of February.

There are other festivals greatly celebrated in China such as:

  1. Lantern festival
  2. Dragon Boat festival
  3. Double Ninth festival
  4. Tomb Sweeping Day

Martial arts

Chinese martial arts often named under the terms Kung Fu and Wushu are the several hundred fighting styles that have developed over the centuries in China.

These fighting styles are often classified according to common traits, identified as “families” or “schools”. Examples of such traits include Shaolinquan physical exercises.

Food

Chinese food is full of symbols – many superstitious meanings are attributed depending on the colour and the shape of the food.

The Chinese believe that food should contain all five key flavours: sweet, savoury, sour, bitter and spicy.

Conclusion

China is the largest of all Asian countries and has the largest population of any country in the world. Occupying nearly the entire East Asian landmass, it occupies approximately one-fourteenth of the land area of Earth.

China is a beautiful country, the landscapes, the buildings, the views. China’s culture is unique, food is amazing, people are friendly, and these are all the reasons why you should visit this country.
