Metropolitan Avraham asked the architect Yakov Bukhvostov to build the Assumption Cathedral in January 1693. They built the Assumption Cathedral of the Ryazan Kremlin over 7 years, from 1693 on 1699.

The wooden iconostasis of the XVII century is the main decoration of the interior of the church.

The iconostasis has 7 tiers ( ярус ) of icons. All the icons were painted by the artist Nicholas Solomon, a student of Simon Ushakov. The Assumption Cathedral is one of the main symbols of Ryazan.
