Hello, today I would like to tell you about one of the prides of our city. I mean the monument which reminds us that our small city is a place which gave birth to many heroes. So, I will tell you about the monument to Evpaty Kolovrat . Evpaty Kolovrat is a hero of Ryazan national legends of the XIII century, the period of the invasion of Baty-Khan and his Golden Hord.

Brief story Evpaty Kolovrat was a Ryazan boyar and a voivode. In the winter of 1237/38 he was in Chernigov where got news of burning Ryazan. With his "regiment" of 1700 people Evpaty made feats with Baty-Khan’s army. Evpaty’s name was glorified in many legends and stories. He became a hero of Ryazan land, but known in all Russia. The feat of Evpaty Kolovrat was depicted in films books, paintings.

Monument to Evtaty Kolovrat On October 18, 2007 the official opening of the monument to Evpaty Kolovrat took place. It happened in the center of Ryazan, on the area near the Ryazan post office. The monument was created by the Ryazan sculptor Oleg Sedov.

The monument is situated on a red granite pedestal that symbolizes blood of Russian people which was left in Ryazan land in the days of Tatars invasion and the Tatar yoke. On the pedestal there is a horse with the defender of Ryazan land.

I think this monument reminds Ryazan land residents and our guests of the glorious history of the people and statements that Ryazan by its right can be considered the city of heroes.
