My native land

What place can be considered as a small motherland? For some people it`s a native town, city or a village, where they were born and for other people it`s just a place where they grew up and spent his life. It can be a big city with millions inhabitants or a quiet and not famous town and at the same time it is the sweetest place in the world, because you spent here the best moments in your childhood and youth.

As for me, my favourite town is Meleuz. I spent here the best hours in my life. I was born here and I have been living in Meleuz for eighteen years.

The history of my town is not amazing. But it was so many years ago and every mention of historical facts attracts me and my friends. Meleuz was founded as a transit point on the Orenburg `s tract in the second part of the eighteenth century. In 1863 it became a village and only in 1958 Meleuz became a town.

The first inhabitants in Meleuz were Chuvashes. Seven Chuvash families lived on the left bank of the river Meleuzka. The Chuvash legend says that the name “Meleuz” came from the Chuvash words “ Mele” and “ves”. These words are translated as “we came”. The other legend says the name “Meleuz”   came from the river Meleuzka. “Mele” is a shallow and “uzka” is a narrow river.    

Nowadays Meleuz is a beautiful, comfortable, quiet town. Over 65000 people live here. We have all for our fine life. There are not a lot of sights in our town. But at the same time we can spend our free time interesting.
