I.Journalism is the integral part of modern life. We get the current news via newspapers and TV, thanks to journalists and reporters.It makes a contribution to our civilization`s development. According to the researches the journalist`s job is used to be active, interesting, highly-paid and the most dangerous, risky - thanks to the modern political systems in the world. Talking about me, my future plans are connected with this job. And I ask myself – what is journalism and what is the portrait of modern journalist.

My first step in this approach was my classmates` interviewing - the results will be a bit later.

My second step was making the own description of the reporter`s portrait

And I searched some information: When and where journalism and journalists appeared?

II.(3 сл) The first tablets were found in the Ancient Rome and as it was defined later -  they got information about the terrible thunderstorm which became a reason of hundreds of people`s death.

The first war journalists were in the period of Alexandr the Great Makedonsky`s military campaigns. He realized the importance of war news and special person was responsible for making the news. He described them as the participants of the event to appreciate Alexander`s name in centuries.

Talking about the journalism as we imagine it, we can take the 15th century as the starting point, when the first printing press was invented and all the information was possible to print on paper.

After the 17th century (1600) European governments began printing official newsletters. The first English-language magazine "A current of General News" was published.

III.The history of Russian journalism is connected with the Russian literature. To the first so-called journalists we can refer the authors of birch barks (берестяныеграмоты).

The first Russian newspaper of 17th centurywas“Vesti-Kuranty”- edited according to the tsar MichailPhedorovichRomanov`s order. M.Lomonosov was the first newspaper editor of “St.Petersburg`svedomosty”

The first private daily newspaper was the SevernaiaPchela (Northern Bee), edited by Alexander Smirdin (1795-1857) in St. Petersburg (1825-1860). VestnikEvropy (Russian: ВестникЕвропы) was the most popular magazine.

In the Soviet Era printed propaganda was the main aim.Radio was a new technology, and it was used for political speeches.  There was little role for the journalist to summarize or interpret the text; there was no commentary or discussion – only facts.

Foreign correspondents were strictly prevented from the country`s events

 Since 1991the media became free of political control. The publishers and journalists found and report accurate news,

Nowadays there is a large number of media and journalists of different kinds, approaches.

IV.Let’s talk about the portrait of the nowadays journalist

There are two types of portraits in journalism.  The first is written analysis or narrative of a specific topic or person, detailed. The second type of portrait is an illustration or photograph of a person.

Talking about me, I`d like to be a photojournalist

Photojournalism is a form of journalism (the collecting, editing, and presenting of news material for publication or broadcast) it uses images to tell a news story. Photojournalism is differed from others - documentary photography, social documentary photography, street photography or celebrity photography. Photojournalists help communities to connect. Photojournalists must be informed about events outside door. They deliver news in a creative format.

Talking about my classmates while my interview, they tell that journalist is a person who:

  • Makes projects, makes news;
  • Gets and collects information;
  • Writes articles about life;
  • Gets information and transforms it into the written forms;
  • Talks about problems and helps to solve them;
  • Does his work perfect;
  • To be a successful journalist you should have a lot of qualities, you should be communicative, have a sense of mobility, be ready to the changing conditions

The traits for a good journalist are:

Creativity, Patience, Honesty,Activity, Professionalism, having Interesting ideas, Original steps, Hard-work, Intelligence,Ambitions, Confidence

Talking about my image of a journalist I can say that it’s a combination of jobs. He should be:

  • Persistent like miner because interesting news you should mine
  • Free like an artist to make  your life bright
  • Pleased like a servant because person you talk should trust you
  • Fearless like surgeon because he should make decisions immediately
  • Kind like a nurse  because sometimes a good word in hash conditions may be better than a cup of tea
  • Science fiction predicts a world where reporters are no longer humans but computers or robots, and the world reported is a world of fantasy.

For me, journalism is a talent as a regard. If you haven`t one, it`s no sense to make this choice.
