Hello, everyone! Our names are Zakhar and Dmitry. Today we want to tell about our project which we have been working on since last September. It is called The Tower of London. Legends and Myths.
Slide 2
At the English lessons students read and talk about London. It is famous for a large number of museums, palaces and parks. Unfortunately, within the lessons, we speak about these places only briefly. Our choice was the Tower of London, which is called a place of sorrow? It is one of the most mysterious places in London.
Slide 3
The Hypothesis of our project is The Tower is a unique place that allows you to learn the history of the country, and myths and legends reflect specific historical events and periods.
Slide 4
The Object of the study is the Tower of London
Slide 5
The Subject of our research is the Tower’s history, its legends and myths
Slide 6
We decided to find out what is hidden behind the walls of the Tower of London, what secrets and mysteries are stored in it.
Slide 7
Our main goals are
to study the history of the Tower of London in different times;
to search the main legends of the Tower of London;
to match them with the historical facts;
to do a survey twice(at the beginning and at the end);
to make a virtual tour into the Tower for our classmates;
to create an interactive quiz for students
Slide 8
The Methods are Searching, studying and analysis of sources, creating a presentation (a quiz) for students
Slide 9
At the beginning of our research, we did a survey “Some facts about The Tower of London”
40 students of six-graders took part in it. We offered 5 simple questions to our classmates.
You can see the results on the slide. After analyzing the results, we realized students know almost nothing about this important place and our information would be useful for every student who is interested in English, London and British history.
Slide 10
So, we read materials about the Tower of London, learnt its history, the most famous myths and legends about it.
Slide 11
In fact, the Tower of London is the largest and most durable fortress in Europe. It took 200 years to build it. There are 20 towers in it.
The oldest building of the Tower is the White Tower, which looks like a fairy-tale castle. It was founded by William the Conqueror in 1078 and became a Royal residence.
During different periods of its existence, it was a fortress, a palace, an Arsenal building, a Royal mint, a prison and a place of executions. However, these are not all the functions of the tower of London at different times. It also was an observatory, state archives and even a zoo.
Slide 12
While we were collecting the stories, we got the idea for a specific presentation of our work.
And now……We are glad to present you our Treasure Hunt quiz!! Watch the trailer for our quiz which was made by our classmate Emil Kerimov specially for us.
Some words about our game. It is based on 10 most famous legends about the Tower.
During the quiz you go from one spot to another, from one tower to another.
In each place read or listen to a myth or a legend and answer the question.
If your answer is correct, you go on to the next question. When you pass all the levels you will learn what valuable thing is very important for the British Crown and why.
We hope that the quiz will be in demand by English language teachers and useful for secondary students. In our opinion, this is very important, because during the survey, we found that students know almost nothing about the monument, which is part of the world cultural heritage.
Slide 13
To sum up, we are sure the Tower of London is the most mystical place in London!
By studying itsl egends and myths, you can learn a lot of historical facts about the history of the city and the country.
The more you learn the history of the Tower, the more horror you feel, the horror of the crimes, the betrayals and the Royal intrigues that took place in different times in this place.
All in all, our hypothesis that the tower is a unique place that allows you to learn the history of the country, and myths and legends reflect specific historical events and periods, is true.
Thanks a lot. That’s it!
