Hello! I’d like to greet the jury and the participants of this festival!

My name is Ignatov Vasliy. I’m in the 5th grade. Today I’d like to tell about my great-great-grandad Bykov Vasiliy Petrovich. I was named after him, as you see.

My parent was a participant in the Russo-Japanese War, and he was awarded by the Order of Saint Vladimir, 4th degree with the swords and a bow.

  Vasiliy Petrovich was born in 1858 in Chernigov province. His family was big, he was a fifth of the eleven children. In 1905 my parent was sent to the Sakhalin island to escort some convicts, he was a squad commander.

On June 24, 1905 the Japanese ships attacked the island. There were 53 military ships and 14000 soldiers against one thousand two hundred Russo soldiers. The Japanese forces were12 times larger! They surrounded the island and offered Russo soldiers to give up. All Russo squads gave up, but not only my grandad! He started to fight with them. He parted his squad into small groups because my grandad wanted his soldiers to be unrecognized. So they went to the north by boats, it took them 7 days. That way he saved 203 people. The Japanese officers named my grandad as a stubborn Russo man!

Nowdays there’s a beautiful waterfall, a village, a museum are named after my grandad on Sakhalin.

I’m very proud of my great-great-grandad Bykov Vasiliy Petrovich. I’d like to be like him. Now I’m a commander of football team.
