Introduction
There is a good proverb that I like very much: “We eat to live, but do not live to eat.” I think it is true because food is a source of energy and life. Nevertheless people like eating tasty food. For some people food is a source of pleasure, too.
Nowadays, it‘s very popular to go to the fast food restaurants and cafes where they can eat delicious and not really expensive food. They order meal with more fat, calories, sugar or salt and less nutrition and vitamins than is necessary. Well, they can enjoy their favourite sweet, salt and fat foods, but it is bad for their health. These foods should only be occasional treats.
I interviewed my classmates about what they love to eat. The answers weren’t very optimistic. The most popular answers were hamburgers, sweets and biscuits. Less popular answers were pizza, sausages and chips. (The results are presented in diagram 1).
It’s strange but no one named fruit and vegetables.
In fact, this food is very bad for their health. As a result they feel tired, sleepy and sluggish; have a stomach ache and a headache. Some of them are sick and they do not go to school. And it is not a secret that meals influence their mood.
I think they have problems for lack of vitamins. They can’t choose the right food. They know so little about what they eat every day and how it affects their health.
The problem of my project is bad influence of fast food on children’s health.
Hypothesis:
I suppose that if children include foods rich in vitamins in their diary diet and use the recommendations and recipes from my cookery book, their health will be better.
The object of my investigation is vitamins as a source of’ children’s health.
The subject of my investigation is the importance of vitamins on the health of the children.
The theme of my project is: The magic alphabet of health
The aim of my project is to make my classmates’ understand what are vitamins, their importance in diary diet, and their values.
To achieve the aim of this project I had to fulfill the next tasks:
In order to obtain these tasks I used such methods of my work as:
The end product of my project is the cookery book ‘Healthy recipes’, which I stick on the walls of my classroom. It can be used my classmates and friends. I think it will be interesting to our parents and teachers too, and help them to choose the right food. At the end of the book you can find the menu according to the recipes from this book.
I. Importance of vitamins on human’s health.
1.1 Definition of term “vitamins”
Eating the proper food is important to stay healthy. People need vitamins to stay in a good form. So, what are vitamins? What does this word mean? According to the “Encyclopedia of Children’s Health”, Vitamins are organic components in food that are needed in very small amounts for growth and for maintaining good health.
“Vita” means life in Latin. People get vitamins from the food they eat. There are a lot of vitamins in fruit and vegetables. But you can hardly find any useful vitamins in Coke, chips and other fast food. Each vitamin is responsible for different things in the human body.
1.2 Types of vitamins
There are thirteen vitamins. They are usually named by a letter of the alphabet (A, B, C, D, E and K).
Vitamins fall into two categories.
They are fat soluble vitamins and water soluble vitamins.
The fat soluble vitamins are vitamins A, D, E, and K. They can be stored in our body.
The water soluble vitamins are vitamins C and the B complex vitamins. They can not be stored in our body.
1.3 Vitamin A
Vitamin A is fat soluble. It comes from Beta-carotene in plants. This vitamin plays a really big part in eyesight. It's great for night vision. Vitamin A helps you see in color, too, from the brightest yellow to the darkest purple. In addition, it helps your body fight infections by boosting your immune system.
Which foods are rich in vitamin A?
1.4 Vitamin B
The B complex vitamins work together in the body. They are important for converting food to energy. Vitamin B1 is in meat, porridge and bread. B1 is responsible for the nervous system. Lack of this vitamin leads to serious illnesses and even death. Vitamin B6 is necessary for human blood. It helps your heart work well.
Which foods are rich in vitamin B?
1.5 Vitamin C
Vitamin C is in every fruit and vegetable. You can find this vitamin in black currants, strawberries, oranges and grapefruits, onions, cabbages and green peppers. Vitamin C is important for building bones and teeth. It can be useful in winter when people get sick with the flue.
Which foods are rich in vitamin C?
Vitamin D works with calcium and it makes our bones and teeth strong. People can get it from sunlight.
Which foods are rich in vitamin D?
1.7 Vitamin E
Everybody needs E. This hard-working vitamin protects your cells and tissues from damage. It is also important for the health of red blood cells. Vitamin E is necessary for skin and body. It helps to maintain immune system.
Which foods are rich in vitamin E?
1.8 Vitamin K
Vitamin K is necessary for human blood. Vitamin K is the clotmaster! Remember the last time you got a cut? Your blood did something special called clotting. This is when certain cells in your blood act like glue and stick together at the surface of the cut to help stop the bleeding.
Which foods are rich in vitamin K?
II. Practical value of my project
I interviewed my classmates about what they love to eat.
Dear Friend! Please answer this question. It doesn’t take you a lot of time. What is your favourite food? __________________________________ Thank you.

The results of exploration.
I had made the analysis of this exploration and came up to the conclusion: Children can’t eat healthily. They usually eat for pleasure and don’t know that the right food which rich in vitamins will help their bodies grow and remain healthy.

The end product of my project is the cookery book ‘Healthy recipes, where you will find many unique but simple recipes which focus on the optimal preservation of all the vitamins and minerals in a meal. At the end of the book you can find the menu according to the recipes from this book. It can be used my classmates and friends. I think it will be interesting to our parents and teachers too, and help them to choose the right food.
Conclusion.
I think I have proved that vitamins are necessary for children’s health. They are important for our immune system, bones, teeth, eyes, and hearts. Vitamins are a source of’ energy and healthy lifestyle.
Here are a few simple rules to keep your health.
1. Start your day with a good breakfast. One healthy breakfast could be a slice of whole grain toast, a scrambled egg, a glass of milk, and a piece of fruit.
2. Choose healthy snacks. Instead of potato chips, eat an apple or some sliced carrots. Instead of a candy bar, have a handful of raisins, a few whole wheat crackers, or a cup of yogurt.
3. Try not to eat foods with a lot of sugar, such as candy, cake and cookies. It’s very bad for your teeth.
4. Cut out soda. Most sodas have lots of extra sugar and many have caffeine. There are many healthier drinks such as water, low –fat milk, and 100 per-cent fruit juice.
5. Don’t eat fast food. Eat more fresh fruit and vegetables.
6. Don’t eat at night.
To summing up, I’d like to recite the poem about healthy eating.
Eat lots of vegetables,
Fill up your plate.
If you eat healthily,
You will feel great.
Food gives you energy
For work and play.
Start eating healthily.
Try it today!
Fruit is delicious, so
Juicy and sweet
It’s full of vitamins
And good to eat.
