How to save our planet.

We are  all citizens of the planet Earth and rely on it for food, air, water, energy and much more other things. So, how much effort are we making to reduce our impact on the environment?

First of all, we should use renewable energy such as solar power, hydroelectricity, tidal energy, wind power, biomass and so on. We can combine these kinds of alternative energy. For example, in summer we can use the sun's energy. Solar cells can be put on rooftops to convert sunlight directly into electricity.

Secondly, in winter and in autumn we can use the power of the wind by building wind turbines. There are tall towers with big propellers on top. The wind blows the propeller, which turns a generator in order to create electricity. If we build a number of wind turbines together in a windy place, we can make a "wind farm" and produce quite a lot of electricity.

Finally, we can use hydroelectric power, because my city is on the river. A dam can be used to trap a large area of water, like a reservoir. This water then flows through tunnels in the dam, turns turbines and drives generators to create electricity. Hydroelectric power stations produce the cheapest energy.
