Dreams of England

What have prepared you for me,
Old narrow streets of England,
A lonely traveller - to see
The Great United Kingdom?

I'd like to see your foggy land,
The Thames that’s full of honour.
I need to learn how life is spent
At this big planet's corner;

And meet the ones I've never met
Admiring them again
And to become - yeah! - soaking wet
While running in the rain.

Still running quickened up my pace
Outstripping noisy strangers
To Piccadilly I will face
Where actors set the stages

To save myself from cold, I'll wrap
Up in my jacket drinking tea
And lick my lips asking the map
'What have prepared you for me?'

I'll wander quietly through the ages
And watch the fair, majestic view
Oh, great Shakespeare's tragedies!
How can't I be in love with you?

How can I take no care about
Your gothic temples in the mist
And your Mysterious Stonehenge that,
It seems, stands till the world exists,

Your Medieval castles where
Each knight was ready for the fight -
These legends are what I delight
So much! (And little scare...)

And modern England, now smiles widely
To me, a simple dreamy person,
Red buses, everyone’s in hurry
In front of me, next time - behind me,
Vivacity! And even nights
Can't quench the city's shinihg lights.

As silence sweeps like golden corn,
As it envelops England tightly
I'll have to go; but I'll return
And greet your misty lands politely.

As I do so (I will - I promise)
I ask with ardour breathing free,
'My chilly England, full of calmness
What have prepared you for me?'
