“My favourite character is Huckleberry Finn”

I’d like to write   about   Huckleberry Finn, the main character of  “  The

Adventures  of  Huckleberry Finn”, written  by  Mark Twain,  the great American writer, whose works are very popular with children all over the world. It  took place more than one hundred years ago. Huck was a boy who loved adventures. No good boys must play with him, said all the mothers in St. Petersburg. But Tom played   with Huck every time he got   a chance. In this   book   Huck and his friend Tom   found the money that the robbers had hidden in a cave. They   lived on the Mississippi   in the village St. Petersburg. It was a very small village. Steamboats came there twice a week. Sailors were very popular in St. Petersburg. Every little boy in the village wanted to be a sailor. So did Huck and Tom. Huck was a little tram. He had no home and never went to school or to church. The widow Douglas took Huck into her house as her son.

She   was   a kind woman. But Huck   was not happy there, he   did not like living with   Mrs   Douglas   because of   her sister. Huck ran away with a slave named Jim, who was a kind and honest man.

Mark Twain said that   his characters were all based on real people. Huck Finn was modeled after   Tom Blankenship, son of the town drunkard. As Twain   wrote  “he was ignorant, unwashed, insufficiently fed, but he had as good a heart as ever a boy  had. His liberties were totally unrestricted. He was the only really independent person- boy or man-in  the  community, he was happy and was envied by all the rest of us. We liked him.”

This novel is now known to children and grown  ups all over the world. The writer shows the boys and girls of his time with great sympathy and understanding. Readers often see themselves in these characters for boys and girls of all times have something in common.

Many years have passed since the death of   Mark Twain, but still many boys and girls like to read books by this outstanding writer.
