How Lyutic got lost in London

Once upon a time not so long ago there was a boy whose name was Lyutic. He was 9 years old, but he thought that he was a grown-up. He lived far far away in the beautiful district on the edge of a forest. His house was small but lovely, it looked like a fairy house.  Lyutic loved this place, loved the view of the small hills out of his window, loved the most beautiful sunset in the evenings, loved to go to the town church with its quietness. There was always wonderful and warm weather and he loved all of these.

Lyutic lived with his mother and father. His father was 40 years old and his name was William. He was strict and fearsome from the outside but kind and gentle on the inside. William was a seller in a shop. The boy's mother, Maria, was very beautiful woman and worked in an atelier. They lived in wealth and joy and loved his only and long awaited son very much.

Lyutic had many friends, he played with them in his free time. In short, it was ordinary childhood of an ordinary boy. He went to school and that's why he usually went to bed early. As a rule, his mother put him to bed, reading a book, and this day was no exception. Lyutic felt asleep, not even guessing, what would wait him in a sleep...

***

Lyutic always loved helping his parents and even in his dream he sometimes went into a deep forest for mushrooms and berries. But in that dream, the boy was asked to bring water from a large well, which stood on their backyard. Lyutic was short and he found it to be hard. But he looked like a man that had no problems with it. Maybe fate was not on his side so the boy fell into the well.

Time went by, but Lyutic didn't return. Of course his parents began to worry. His father decided to check the yard, but he didn't find his son. Then he called his wife and they ran to find him together.

Luytic was very scared, he was afraid that no one would find him in the well, but something strange was happening – Lyutic was falling and falling.

“Probably, the well doesn't have a bottom,” - he thought.

The boy recalled “Alice in Wonderland”, that his mother read him couple of days ago.  He thought, that, maybe, fairy tales were not just “tales” and “stories”, maybe, they were not fictional at all. He was thrilled that it could be true.

It seemed that Lyutic had been falling for several minutes or hours, he couldn't tell exactly, the time dragged on like a chewing gum. And then, finally, he landed. To his surprise and shock, he was standing on an unfamiliar large square.

He looked around. The place was surrounded by houses. Their architecture was ancient but amazingly beautiful. There were a lot of small lonely benches next to carefully planted trees. And although there was a fountain of fairytale beauty in the middle of the square still the place was very gray and cloudy.

Lyutic examined the square with his huge eyes, thinking where to go, what to do. Gloomy people were going past him, but he was afraid to ask them for help because they looked so unfriendly and in hurry.

Lyutic wanted to eat very much. He wandered around, hoping to find a place where he would find help, and suddenly he saw a beautiful girl with incredibly blue eyes. He decided to come up to her and ask where he was. The girl looked at him in surprise, but did not understand anything. Lyutic studied English at school a little bit and decided to ask in this language. Fortunately, she understood him, and she smiled and said that he was in London. Lyutic was frightened, he did not know English very well, because he did not always listen to his teacher at the lessons. The boy decided that he urgently needed to return home but he didn`t know how to do so.

His stomach growled. There was a few pounds in his pockets, which he found in father`s box at home and wanted to bring these money to school to boast a little. The boy asked the girl, whose name, as he found out, was Agatha, to take him to the coffee house. His money was enough only for fish and chips and for sweet tea but he enjoyed the English meal nevertheless.

Agatha, looking carefully at Lyutic, asked him with concern:

  • Hey, where did you come from and how did you get here? Do you need any help to find your parents? It's not good to wander around in such a big city all alone.
  • I do not know where my parents are... Probably they have stayed on the other side of the well.

Agatha did not understand what kind of well Lyutik was talking about and decided that he was an orphan who fled the shelter.

She was very kind-hearted girl of 20 years and she felt very sorry for Lyutic. So Agatha allowed him to live with her and promised him to find out where he had come from. The boy was very happy with such luck. He decided to walk a little to look at this city.

- I'm not a little boy! I will not get lost.

The girl reluctantly agreed to let him go, but wrote him the address of her apartment.

He walked and saw a huge clock tower. Lyutic immediately realized that this was Big Ben, because who didn`t know about the symbol of London! The weather was very good, but it was necessary to hurry up and get to Agatha before dark. Lyutic got lost once, but with the help of people, he reached his destination. At Agatha`s home, the boy ate, talked with Agatha and felt that he was very tired because it was such an impressive and hard day.

The next day they went for a walk together, Lyutic did not understand Agatha very well, but tried to recall everything that he had been taught at school. They walked in the parks, through the beautiful streets, the girl showed him many interesting things and places. But Lyutic had to think about how to return home, because he missed his parents and knew that they were worried.

Agatha and Lyutic had been discussing all sorts of plans of returning Lyutic to his parents for several days. And they even made a huge list of possible options that they decided to try.

But all attempts were unsuccessful, unfortunately. Agatha thought that they needed to find a well. A few hours later they found it, but Lyutic did not make up his mind to jump inside. He went to the well every day, but he could not jump into it because he was scared.

Three weeks passed, they became very friendly, Lyutic learned English. Agatha decided to go to work, and the boy was sent to school in the first class, so it was not too difficult for him. Lyutic, of course, missed his parents, but he made friends with Agatha and did not want to leave her either. He really liked his new school, and it was not so difficult.

Lyutic continued to go to school. But with every passing day, he became more and more homesick and kept thinking about how to get back home. It seemed to him that one day he would wake up in his house in bed and be awakened by his mother. She would kiss and hug him. The only thing that helped him not to be sad was Agatha. She, too, like his mother, put him to sleep and took him from school. He had many friends in his new school and it was easy and fun.

But something still was wrong ... friends did not always laugh at his jokes, because they sometimes did not understand him. The weather was often cloudy and foggy. And Agatha, despite being very kind and good, was still not his mother...

One day he walked through his favorite park and fed swans and ducks. Suddenly he heard a familiar voice. He turned around not understanding where it was coming from, his heart was beating with excitement.

It seemed to him, as if someone from the sky was telling him:

- Lyutic, wake up. Get up, darling.

He realized that it was the voice of his lovely mother. He was so happy! But he still did not understand where she was, where his mother was. He turned his head this way and that way, looking around, it seemed to him that he would cry, if he would not see his mother right this minute.

 - Open your eyes, darling, - said a gentle and kind voice.

Lyutic opened his eyes and realized that he was in his bed at his real home. This meant that everything that was happening in London was just a dream. He jumped on his mother with embraces, as if he had not really seen her for more than a month. He was over the moon! But suddenly Lyutic realized that Agatha and all his friends were also just a dream and they were never there and probably would not be. His heart was full of joy and sadness. But now he knew what he wanted, what purpose in his life was.

After this dream, his most cherished desire was London. He hoped to find his friends there, who, he believed in the depths of his soul, were not just a dream. So he started to listen to his teacher at the lessons and worked hard to get to London. Hopefully, he would even live there!

And this is the story end.
