              The English writer Pamela Lyndon Travers was born in Maryborough, Australia in 1899.   Once Pamela had to look after two children. She came up with a story about a nanny who wore things in a bag and had an umbrella with a parrot head on the handle. The tale turned into a book. Main characters are: children Michael and Jane and their nanny. The book "Mary Poppins" was published in 1934 and gained great fame. It has become a classic of English children's literature. The genre of the work is a fairy tale. 
              The story of Mary Poppins is easy and fast to read, despite the fact that you have to read in English. The book has 12 chapters, and each of them contains a separate story, which is connected with each other only by the common characters. The young nanny Mary Poppins unexpectedly flies into the house where the characters of the story live: the Banks family and their four children: Jane, Michael and the twins John and Barbara, together with the east wind. Mrs. Banks happily hires her, and the old children, Jane and Michael, treat her with distrust at first, because she seems to be strict and impregnable to them. Soon, however, amazing stories begin to happen with the children. I especially like the Bad Tuesday chapter, in which Jane and Michael, with the help of Mary Poppins, ended up in one or the other part of the world: in the North, in the South, in the East and in the West. And they found out what different people inhabit these regions. 
              I like this book because it is written in a simple, understandable language, it has many adventures. Therefore, the book is very interesting, and you always want to read it further. The appearance and the decisive character of Mary Poppins is very unusual. 
               I advise everyone to read this book. It teaches us to see the unusual in familiar things and not be afraid of any changes.
