Гоша:
Winds in the east, mist comin’ in
Like something is brewin’ about to begin
Can’t put me finger on what lies in store
But I feel what’s to happen, all happened before
Юра: This here is November 17 Cherry Tree Lane. The residence of George Banks esquire.
A word of advice, young man. You may want to get out of here. Storm signals are up at number 17. Bit of heavy weather brewing there.
Mr. Banks: Winifred, where are the children?
They’re not here, dear!
Mr. Banks: What? Of course they’re here. Where else would they be? They should have been bathed and in bed now, why it’s already 6.15!
But George, they ran away from Katie Nanna. They’re missing again!
Mr. Banks: Missing!!! I’ll deal with this. (Using the phone, up stage left) George Banks here. 17 Cherry Tree Lane. It’s a matter of urgency. I should like you to send a policeman around immediately.
Даша: The policeman’s here, George. Come in constable, come in.
Constable: Thank you, sir. While going about my duties on the other side of the park, I happen to come across these here valuables. I believe they’re yours, sir! Come along you two!
Даша: Jane, Michel. (Giving them both a big hug!)
Гоша: Oh, I wouldn’t too hard on them, sir, they’ve had a long a long and weary day!
Mr. Banks: ( To children): come here at once. Well?
Катя: I’m sorry we lost. You see it was windy and kite was too strong for us. In a manner of speaking, it was a runaway kite, not runaway children.
Данила: Actually, it wasn’t a very good kite. We made it ourselves. Perhaps if you helped us to make one?
Тимофей: Well, that sounds like a good idea.
Катя: Father, we are really sorry about what we did today. It was wrong to run away from Katie Nanna.
Mr. Banks: You’re right, you shouldn’t have.
Данила: And we do so want to get on with the new nanny.
Катя: We thought you would and that’s why we wrote this advertisement for the new nanny.
Mr. Banks: You wrote an advert?
Даша: Now George, I think we should listen!
Катя: Wanted: a nanny for two adorable children.
Гоша:
A British nanny must be a general
The future empire lies within her hands
Юра:
And so the person that we need
To mold the breed
Гоша:
Is nanny who can give commands.
Play games all sorts
Юра:
You’re kind you are witty
Very sweet and fairly pretty
Winds, Mary Poppins enters with her umbrella up in front of the stage.
Варя: Hello! You are the father of Jane and Michael Banks, are you not? I said… you are the father of Jane and Michael Banks?
Mr. Banks: Well… yes… I mean… Uh… Have you brought your references? May I see them, please?
Варя: Oh, I make a point to never give references. A very old fashioned idea to mind! Now then, the qualifications. Item one: a cherry disposition , I am never cross. Two: rosy cheeks, obviously. Item tree: play games - all sorts. Well, I am sure the children will find my games extremely diverting! Item four: I am kind, but extremely firm. You are George Banks, are you not?
Mr. Banks: Mr. Banks! Yes!
Варя: And you did advertise for a nanny yet? Very well then. I shall require the second Tuesday off. I believe a trial period will be wise. I’ll give you one week. I’ll know by then. Now I think that I should see the children! Thank you (Michael’s mouth is open). close your mouth, Michael, please. We are not a cod fish! Well, don’t just stand there. Let’s get going. Spit Spot!
Катя: This is your room, with a lovely view of the park!
Варя: Well, I suppose it will do! Its clean… it just needs a few touches like… (Sets carpet bag on table, opens it and takes out items) Well, first things first, I need a hat stand to put my hat on. (Pulls out hat stand, stands it up and hangs her hat in it, takes off her coat and hangs it up too) and my mirror (Takes out a mirror, hangs it up, and looks in it) Ah, yes, perfect, as usual!! (Michael looks in the bag)
Данила: But there is nothing in there!
Варя: Now, Michael, don’t judge things by their appearance!
Данила: We’d better keep an eye on this one. She is tricky!
Катя: She is wonderful!
Варя: Now let me see… where is my… where did I put it…
Данила: What?
Варя: (still searching) My tape measure.
Данила: What do you need it for?
Варя: I want to see how you measure up. Ah, here it is. Come along quickly, Michael. Heads up. Extremely stubborn and suspicious.
Данила: I am not!
Варя: See for yourself! Suspicious. Now you Jane. (She measures Jane and reads the tape measure) Mmmm, rather inclined to giggle. Doesn’t put things away!
Данила: How about you?
Варя: Very well. Hold this for me! As I expected, Marry Poppins. Practically perfect in every way.
Катя: Mary Poppins. Is that your name? It’s lovely!
Варя: Thank you. Now shall we get on with it! It’s time for an outing to the park.
Данила: I don’t want an outing!
Варя: Come along, please. Let me look at you!
Waiter! Waiter! (sung) Now, let’s see. What would be nice? We’ll start with raspberry ice, and then some cakes and tea.
Катя Селюто: Order what you will, there’ll be no bill!
Варя: You’re very kind.
Катя Селюто: Anything for Mary Poppins. You’re our favourite person. We have a vegetable salad today. There is also ice creame, a chocolate cake and coffee. Would you like black, white or cappuchino?
Варя: Children, what would you like?
Катя: Strawberry ice cream for me, please.
Данил: Chocolate cake for me, please.
Варя: Cappuchino for me, please.
Катя Селюто: Here you are. Your ice cream, chocolate cake and cappuchino.
Варя: How much should I pay?
Катя Селюто: 2 pounds 50, please.
Варя: Uh, well actually, I’m delighted. Come along children.
Катя: Mary Poppins, you won’t ever leave us, will you?
Данила: Will you stay if we promise to be good?
Катя: What ever would we do without you!
Варя: I’ll stay until the wind changes.
Данила: But Mary, how long will that be?
Варя: Hush, dear - we have time for a quick afternoon tea and then home for a nice warm bath.
Катя: Oh, dad, we’re so glad that you’re home.
Данила: Want to hear a joke?
Катя: We had the most wonderful afternoon with Mary Poppins.
Данил: Speaking of afternoons. The joke goes like this… I know a man with a wooden leg named Smith.
Mr. Banks: Smith? We don’t know anyone called Smith.
Данил: And there was that second chap says: “What’s the name of his other leg?”
Катя: And we went on a carousel and horses came off and won a Grand National…
Mr. Banks: Oh, children, please, be quiet.
Катя: Mary Poppins says that if we’re good, she’ll take us there again.
Mr. Banks: Oh! Mary Poppins say that? Will you, please, return to the nursery and, Mary Poppins, will you come with me?
Варя: As you wish.
Mr. Banks: I regret that I must say to you. That is I must confess that I’m extremely disappointed in you. I don’t deny that I am partially responsible for not having made it clear, but it is high time that the children see the serious things in life.
Даша: But George, they’re only children.
Mr. Banks: Like these silly words super… ca… superfragi…
Варя: Supercalifragilistiexperalidicious
Mr. Banks: Yes, well done. You said it!
Варя: They need to learn about the life you lead.
Mr. Banks: Exactly.
Варя: It’s time they grow up.
Коля: Urgent telegram. Name of Banks. Any answer?
Mr. Banks: If it’s good news I’ll give you sixpence.
Коля: And no sixpence?
Mr. Banks: Certainly not!
Варя: Oh, what is it? Is somebody ill?
Mr. Banks: Worse still! Listen: “Coming to stay with you for a month. Arriving this afternoon three o’clock. Please light the fire in the bedroom. Euphemia Andrew”.
Катя: Andrew? Why, that’s the same name as your governess!
Mr. Banks: It’s my governess! Her name is Euphemia.
Даша: But I don’t call that bad news. It will mean getting the spare room ready, of course, but I don’t mind. I shall like having the dear old soul.
Mr. Banks: Dear old soul! You don’t know what are you talking about. Just wait until you see her!
Варя: But, my dear! You must be here to meet her. It looks so rude. Where are you going?
Mr. Banks: Anywhere! Everywhere! Tell her I’m dead.
Катя: Michael, look! It’s her!
Mr. Banks: Who? It’s who?
Катя: Miss Andrew. Just where Mary Poppins said she would be. You do see her, don’t you, father?
Ms Andrews: Well, I don’t suppose you know who I am.
Данила: Oh, yes, we do! You’re the holly terror!
Ms Andrews: You are very rude boy. I shall report you to your father. And you’re Jane, I suppose? H’m. I never cared for the name. Winifred, will you be good enough to explain this unseemly hullabaloo?
Даша: I don’t think there is anything to explain, do you?
Ms Andrews: I should like to make one thing clear, once and for all. I am not out of sorts.
Катя: How do you do?
Ms Andrews: What manners! No well-bred child cries like that.
Варя: Thank you, ma’am. But I bring the children up in my own way and take advise from nobody. I run this home precisely on schedule.
Ms Andrews: Young woman! You forgot yourself! How dare you answer me like that!
Даша: Welcome, Ms. Andrew, welcome! How kind of you to pay us a visit. Such an unexpected pleasure. I hope you had a good journey.
Ms Andrews: Most unpleasant. I never enjoy travelling. Winifred, please, don’t be emotional.
Варя: I don’t know how to bring up children! We’ll see about that!
Катя: What is that?
Варя: She comes up to circular object, Miss Andrew. She left behind and takes the cover. What? Two years? Is that cave? Shame on her!
Данила: What is it saying?
Варя: Yes - of course. I know that field. Was that where she caught you?
Данила: What are going to do, Mary Poppins?
Варя: A lark. You are seeing a lark in a cage for the first time and the last.
Ms Andrews: Where are these awful children? Those little beasts have run away from me for the last time. Oh, I quite forgot! I left my lark Caruso outside. I must go and get him. Now, let me see. Where did I leave my… Why? When? Where? What? Who? Who took off this cover? Who opened that cage? Where is my lark? You did it! I can tell by the look on your face! How dare you! I shall see that you leave this house tonight.
(next moment she finds herself inside the cage)
Oh, oh! Oh! What am I doing? Where I am going? I have no room to move! I can hardly breathe!
Open the door! Let me out, I say! Let me out!
Даша: Where is Miss Andrew?
Данила: Gone!
Даша: What do you mean - gone?
Катя: She didn’t seem to stay.
Даша: What does this mean, Mary Poppins? How very extraordinary! I can’t understand it.
Mr. Banks: Well? Has she come?
Даша: She has come and gone.
Mr. Banks: Gone? Do you mean - really gone? Miss Andrew?
Даша: Just now - in a taxi. Because the children were rude to her, I suppose, the wind is blowing.
Варя: All good things come to an end.
Данила: She’s going. Wind’s come around.
Катя: She only promised to stay until the wind changed.
Данила: Do you think she’ll come back?
Катя: Perhaps - if we want to come, she will.
Гоша:
It was a jolly holiday with Mary
Mary made your heart so light!
When the day was gray and ordinary
Mary made the sun shine bright!
Юра:
When Mary held your hand
You felt so grand
Your heart started beating like a big brass band
It was a jolly holiday with Mary
No wonder that it was Mary that we love!
