Why do I chose this topic?
People work hard. They come home late and are busy at weekends. They
have no time to go to a sports club or sports centre which isn’t quite near their homes. They can hardly do sport seriously. They just want to relax.
I think people of all ages and types have to do exercises at home to improve their health and to keep fit. In the morning they switch on the TV and follow fitness classes at home or go jogging in the park in the evening.

From the story of the Olympic games
At the end of the nineteenth century a Frenchman called Baron Pierre de a Coubertin decided to try to revive the Olympic Games. At that time, Europe was divided by wars. Coubertin thought that the Olympic Games could help to bring peace. He thought highly of sport. He described the Olympic spirit in the following words: «The important thing is not winning but taking part. » These words are still remembered today.
Coubertin believed very strongly that sportsmen must not compete for money, but for glory and for the honour of their country.
At first, nobody was interested in his ideas. But Coubertin did not give up and worked hard. In 1894, he formed the International Olympic Committee and on 5 April 1896, The Olympic Games began again, after nearly fifteen centuries. In 1913, Coubertin found and emblem of five linked rings. They became a symbol of the Olympic Games. These five rings represent five parts of the world: Europe, America, Australia, Africa, and Asia.
Since then the Olympic Games have become the most important sports event in the world. They are held once every four years. The greatest wish for all the sportsmen is to win a medal, or simply to take part in the Olympic Games.

Sport in Britain.
Think of your favourite sport. Whatever it is, there is a good chance that it was first played in Britain, and an even better chance that its modern rules were first codified in Britain. The public schools of the Victorian era believed that organized competitive games had many psychological benefits. These games appealed to, and developed, the British sense of `` fair play``. You had to be a ``good loser``. To be a cheat was shameful, but to lose was just ``part of the game``. Team games were best, because they developed ``team spirit``.
Modern sport plays a more important part in people’s lives in Britain that it does in most other countries. For a very large number, this is especially true for men, it is their main form of entertainment. Millions take part in some kind of sport at least once a week. Many millions more are regular spectators and follow one or more sports. There are hours of televised sport each week. Every newspaper, national or local, quality or popular, devotes several pages entirely to sport.
Sometimes the traditions which accompany an event can seen are important as the actual sporting contest. Wimbledon, for instance, is not just a tennis tournament. It means summer fashions, strawberries and long, warm English summer evening.
Many of such events have become world-famous. Therefore it is not only the British who tune in to watch. The Grand National, for example, attracts a television audience of 300 million. The cups finals of other countries often have better quality and more entertaining football on view – but more Europeans watch the English Cup Final than any other. The standard of British tennis is poor, and Wimbledon is only one of the world’s major tournaments. But if you ask any top tennis player, you find that Wimbledon is the one they really want to win. Every footballer in the world dreams of playing at Wembley, every cricketer in the world of playing at Lord’s. Wimbledon, Wembley and Lord’s are the ``spiritual homes`` of their respective sports. Sport is a British export!

Popular kinds of sport
England is the birthplace of many modern kinds of sports. This is why many games that are popular all over the world have English names: football, tennis, boxing and badminton rules were invented in England. I think football is one of the most famous games in the world now.
Figure skating: Figure skating is very popular in our country. There are a lot of beautiful and talented figure skaters in Russia. They are Marina Anisina, Evgeny Piushenko, Alexi Yagudin, and others.
Tennis: Tennis is the most popular kind of sports in Britain too.
People all over the world watch closely all tennis competition and championship. Our favorite championship is Wimbledon because an old tennis tradition remains there as they are.

Why do I chose to do sports?
I like sports because I would like to be healthy and to keep fit. I go in for sports already from 5 eyars old and it is very pleasant to me.
At school we have got physical education three times a week. There we can play football, basketball. Sports help people to have good health and don’t catch cold. Children and grown-ups must take care of their health. As for me every morning all the year round I do my morning exercises. Allmost everyday I do some trainings. In summer I go swimming. During my summer holidays I go on hikes. I usually spend my winter holidays in the country where I ski, skate or toboggan. I like to be healthy and to keep fit.
