The Transfiguration is celebrated by eastern Slavs. In Russia this holiday is called « Yablochny spas » . It is celebrated on 19 of August. On this day, the Russian Orthodox Church esteem the Transfiguration of God

The Transfiguration means the beginning of autumn. It is considered, that after 19 of August nights become colder. Before this holiday is not allowed to eat apples and apple dishes.

On this day people sanctify the apples in the church and cook a lot of tasty apple pies and apple jams. Than they offer this dishes to their relatives, friends, also orphans and poor, and only then eat themselves. In the evening people go to fields. There they sing songs and dance. They see off sunset and summer.
